My favorite of the smaller museums in London! It is really just a house, but it has so many nooks and crannies, and so many things packed into it, that it seems much larger than it is. Although Sir Joan Soane was an architect, his museum houses much more than architectural curiosities. The museum has Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Medieval European,... more

this is a fantastic museum. so funny to call it "cluttered" as another reviewer said. he was trying to fit a massive collection of research into a tiny space. and he did some clever things to manage it. ask about the picture room, they do a demonstration every once in a while. the best part about the museum are the... more

It pretty cool place that is not as mainstream as some other sights. Essentially this is a house that has been converted into a pseudo-museum. If you are an architecture buff there is probably a lot here that you can relate to, but for the average person a lot of the rooms seem pretty plain. The basement is more interesting... more

There are many large wonderful museums to visit in London but I found my most memorable visit was to a home near the Holburn tube stop, Sir John Soane's Museum. This gentleman created a living museum with a beautiful collection of architectural delights and a wonderful collection of paintings. The Painting Room has some special hidden features that must be... more

An absolute delight, if thoroughly confusing! Each room in this horder's paradise has one or two truly remarkable antiquities or artworks. Several of the rooms have guides who will happily discuss the history and meaning of each of these with you. A quirky and fascinating attraction - well worth a side detour if you're visiting the area (eg it's just... more

I enjoyed the Soames museum. It is an interesting collection and the building itself has some interesting features and design. The place is a bit cluttered with his collection. Much of the collection may have been lost on me due to my own lack of knowledge about much of the subject matter. A nice museum off the beaten path that... more

I didn't know a lot about Sir John Soane or his house/museum - what a surprise! If you are in to architecture, this is a must. He was really a creative genius. His collection of antiquities is amazing, and the history of his house and the area was fascinating. If you're tired of numbing, massive museums, spend an hour or... more

Sir John Soane was a pack rat...sorry, "a collector." Whatever label you choose, a visit to the Sir John Soane's Museum is an experience in the eclectic. The converted townhouse is filled from rafters to basement with art, bits and pieces of artifacts, architectural drawings, and, to be honest, junk. If you enjoy the order and logic of a typical... more

I visited the Soane museum on a lark in the summer of 1992. Not to worry, the musuem is under special grant to be kept in its original state per Sir John's request, so this review is in no way outdated! I was anticipating yet another typical British museum as a wandered through the Georgian facade that warm summer day.... more
