What a beautiful cathedral! Being an American it is hard for me to fathom how old it is. The original four pillars from the 14th century are still there even after a fire. It was interesting to me that there were war memorials inside. I was surprised to learn that St. Giles was not Scottish, but rather a saint that... more

Beautiful cathedral with magnificent arches and pipe organ. Have a guide provide details of the Thistle Chapel - fascinating! Well worth a stop. A true gem amongst t-shirt and refrigerator magnet vendors. more

In September of 2002 we visited St. Giles. We were welcomed, as is customary, into the cathedral without any visitors fees. We walked through and enjoyed the different artistic displays and memorials; but enjoyed seeing the gothic ceilings, unique pulpit and seating layout, and the FABULOUS organ. Having not only visited St. Giles on 2 occasions, I also had the HUGE thrill of being married in it! St. Giles is the "Mother Church" for the Presbyterian Church, AKA Church of Scotland.
