Dublin Castle is really not a castle anymore. It is basically a government office building that has tours going on. The tour was very "guided" and you weren't allowed any free reign. Your were moved from room to room and weren't allowed any real exploring. It is certainly not what I had in mind. The tour was good and informative... more

We stopped by Dublin Castle earlier in the week around 2 pm & were told that all the tours were sold out for that day. We waited until the last day of our trip to go back & we are glad we did! The hours of operation are 10 am - 5 pm Mon-Fri & 2 -5 pm Sat &... more

Dublin Castle, once a symbol of English rule, was first a fortress for the Vikings and then in the 13th century, a fortress built by the Anglo-Normans. The Norman Record Tower is all that remains of the 13th century structure. After a fire in 1684, Sir William Robinson created plans for an Upper and Lower Castle Yard, which are present... more

Didn't do the tour, but the outside was nothing special. It was actually painted loud colors on part of the castle. We heard the castle is mainly used for government offices now. Not what you imagine when you think of a castle; Not for me, atleast. Skip it, and go to a better castle in Ireland, like, Blarney Castle in... more

We toured Dublin Castle earlier this month and found it very enjoyable. The tour covered a large section of the castle and even went underground to view some of the old city wall, corner tower, and moat. This building is rich with history and our guide did a great job bringing it to life. From the state rooms to the... more

I loved the Dublin castle tour. The guide was so informative and spoke eloquently and passionately about the subject as we toured around. She had hundreds of little snippets and facts as we went round. I enjoyed the tour, the history of the state rooms, the functions of the rooms, the furnishings. I loved knowing who had stayed there (Nelson... more

If you are interested in history, and preferably know the basics of Irish History, this is a MUST, as the castle puts 800 years of history in context. If you're not particularly interested in history, then give it a miss. The point of it all will be lost on you. You would probably prefer a "phoney" Irish Pub in Temple... more

The state apartments are beautiful and the undercroft is a fascinating look at medieval Dublin. Unfortunately, the tour is simply too long leading to sore feet and backs. 30 minutes of history lectures could have easily been left out without being missed. Our guide seemed hesitant and flustered; perhaps she was new? more

This was a waste of Euro's. There is nothing really to see here the rooms are not laid out as they would have been used by Royalty and the tours are not very well informed. If you want to see some history your better off saving for a trip to the UK and going to see historical places around the... more
