A tram ride was a good addition to our trip in wine country. Some good photo opportunites of the cellar, steel barrels and view during the self tour but really nothing else. Unlike other wineries, you must pay to visit this winery so it's unlikely that I would visit again. more

We enjoyed ourselves and our visit to Sterling. The views were beautiful and we really liked the tastings. The self-tour was a little confusing in places and I really didn't learn all that much, the scenery, the tram ride and wines themselves made up for it. We went there on a Monday and had no lines at all anywhere, the... more

I really like Sterling's wine but found the tasting layout once you get there via their tram to be a little confusing. You can do your own little self guided tour if you want which is what we did but it can be a little confusing as to which direction to head in or what station you might be at... more

The trip up the hill in the gondola is very nice. For 20$, you get the gondola trip, a self guided tour (there are some screens with films and descriptions) and you get to taste 5 wines. I am no wine expert so I cannot really comment on their quality. The vineyard offers something different than other tours we made. more

My wife and I stopped at this winery during our visit to the Napa Valley. It is a large outfit, with a pushy staff. They offer a tram ride up which was very was scenic but for $20 I would expect a bit more. They commented on how they average 250 people and hour up the tram. I guess this... more

My wife and I stopped here on a recent trip to Napa. We spent 4 days in the valley and visited 14 wineries. Sterling is one that we picked based upon the recommendation of several people we met on our trip. There are some interesting things, like the Gondola ride up to the facility, and the view over the vineyards/valley... more

Am meeting family in Calistoga next week and called Sterling Vineyards to ask a couple of simple questions. The person at the visitors center who took my call was very rude and curt. I realize they are busy so that is why I was put on hold, waited my turn and tried to be brief. Suppose I am hoping that... more

The winery is located at the top of a hill that commands a view of much of Napa Valley. It is a beautiful setting. The 'tour' is a wonderful self-guided tour, the winery beautiful. Don't expect a tour guide, though, because you don't get one. The $20 visitor fee includes a gondola ride from the parking lot to the winery,... more

Most vineyards in Napa now charge for tastings. Usually $10-15 for 3-5 tastes of wine. For $15 Sterling includes a tram ride to the top of the mountain (the view was beautiful), a self guided tour, and a served tasting of 5 wines from a beautiful patio. It was worth the cost of admission. When leaving, check out the vineyard... more

The redeeming factor for paying $15 to see this winery is really the gondola ride and the amazing views of the valley. The self-guided tour is lame at best and the wines were unmentionable except for the Malvasia Bianca. I'm not a white wine drinker but this wine is excellent. More of a desert wine I believe. Made enduring the... more
