It was our 7th and last day to enjoy California. After breakfast at the Captain’s Inn prepared by our personable hostess, Melanie, she gave us recommendations and customized directions for Point Lobos and Big Sur. Point Lobos ($9.25 senior rate for our vehicle) is a State Reserve – a living museum. The purpose is to preserve native ecological relationships, unique... more

I won't go on at length about Point Lobos State Reserve. Others have described the Park already. Suffice it to say that it was personally recommended to me by two local residents who go back there again and again. Just take a look at some of the photos which I took there recently! more

This was one of our favorite spots during our 2 week coastal drive in California. We only spent half a day here but could have spent days on end. Really words cannot describe the beauty that abounds here. There are incredible vistas to be seen. The sights are awe-inspiring. We saw tons of sea lions, harbor seals, birds of all... more

Don't miss this one! We stopped for just a couple of hours. I wish we could spend the whole day. This is a beautiful place, well worth the $10 admission. The ranger handed us helpful maps and suggested hikes. We did three walks, one to the sea lions (awesome!), one to the bird rock, and one around a cliff area... more

We went there on 9/2 Monday and we were definitely impressed! On top of all the other reviews, which are all definitely true and useful, I'm adding these: -- 5 to 10 minutes drive from Carmel -- $10 admission / car (we drove a sedan) -- park closes 30 mins after sundown (they post sundown time at the entrance) --... more

I am a native Californian, San Franciscan actually. Point Lobos is the most beautiful place in Northern california. The hiking trails are easy and run the incredibly beautiful coastline. Lots of wildlife and vegetation (flowers in the Spring are incredible) to see. The water is emerald green - otters frolick - pelicans soar, hawks ponder - it is a magical... more

We spent over a half a day hiking in Point Lobos State Reserve. The rocks, wildlife and plants were beautiful. We saw seals, sea lions, otters, deer and various birds. The waves crashing on the rocks were mesmerizing to watch. Also, the plant life was so diverse and the flowers were blooming in late April when we were there. It... more

We spent the day here in mid-April, 2008. We were lucky to have a nice sunny day...not too hot, not too cold. I'm not much of a hiker, but I was scrambling up and over rocks and the trail like I did 30 yrs ago! The scenery is just breathtaking. We could have sat and stared at the ocean forever!... more

We didn't have as long as we wanted to hear due to spending longer than expected at Monterey Aquarium. However the hour we spent was fantastic and I will certainly go back. It wasn't very crowded at all and the views and wildlife were stunning, we saw quite a few things we had seen earlier in the day at the... more

We loved Point Lobos - a great place to see the amazing Northern CA coast without breaking your back! Miles of easy walking trails along the coast and through the woods with incredible breathtaking views. Some small tide pools as well. Saw seals and sea lions! One trail through a historic cypress grove overlooks Pebble Beach from afar. Some people... more
