I don't understand the negative reviews here. This place is rich in excitement. It has an Art Deco design (which only opened a year ago, after 4 years of renovation) and boasts sweeping views of LA. This is a historical place due to its being in many movies and is a legendary place to see. It is not Disney Land,... more
Having no transport I thought I would have to give this a miss. After some research I found out about the shuttle from Vermont/Sunset Metro Red Line station . It was easy and a nice ride through Los Feliz. It was a bit hazy but the scenery was still good. The planetarium show was excellent despite someone snoring at the... more
Get there early - and you can park right next to the observatory. Have coffee or a drink at Puck's Cafe AND do see the planetarium show - it's well worth the money Oh yes, and admire the view (if it's not too hazy) A great morning out - and (other than the show), it's free. more
The Griffith Observatory was one of the coolest things we did in LA. The only other one I've ever been to was the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London. OK, that one was cooler, but this one was good too. Our north Hollywood hotel wasn't exactly tailored towards tourists so when we asked about how to get the shuttle that I've... more
Yeah, the title says it all: A free thing to do that's actually pretty neat in LA. Who'd have thought of it?? Yes, the parking is free, but if you don't get there early enough it is likely you'll have to park at the bottom of a hill and walk up it. It's not strenuous, but anybody who is averse... more
I loved the observatory. The view is amazing! It is on top of the Hollywood hills so you can see all of Los Angeles and get a great view of the Hollywood sign. We went at night and back again during the day to see the view at both times. You no longer have to take a shuttle, but they... more
We just spent a day wandering around The Griffith Park Observatory. Entrance was free. They are closed on Mondays. Walk right up to the front and someone will tell you to ignore the signage that says it is not an entrance. The view of Los Angeles was great. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The building is beautiful since the... more
On September 11th, my Mother and I made the long and laborious journey up to the observatory to see the show. It was a Tuesday, we had the first shuttle tickets of the day, and so only had a short hot wait in the long line to board the trams. When they finally opened the doors, they casually announced that... more
June 30th , 2007 If you are planning a trip to the Griffith Park Observatory please be aware that the only way to get to the Observatory is by taking the shuttle bus that leaves from the Los Angeles Zoo parking lot and another one that leaves from a Hollywood street location. I can remember when you used to be... more
