This is a fun place to visit, with its lovely hillside location, beautiful gardens, and spectacular architecture (set your digital camera to black and white for some neat geometrical shots). The special exhibits are also very worthwhile. Unfortunately, the permanent collection is spotty and failed to impress me as much on a second viewing as it did on the first.... more

What is there not to love about the Getty? Beautiful buildings, beautiful gardens (even the trees cast beautiful shadows!), beautiful artwork laid out in a logical and intimate fashion. I loved the extra informative notes available to read in each room. My only regret was we didn't have more time! more

Be sure that you have all day to spend here. Everything they say is true about this place. The outside gardens & views are stunning. The architecture of the museum buildings were well thought out, & the patio area was great. Plus the have a lush grass area for picnicking & plenty of patio area to sit & eat. I... more

If you enjoy art of any kind, because they have numerous styles, this is the place to go in Los Angeles. The views from the exterior are enough to make it a worthwhile attraction. My only advice is to try to go during mid-day to avoid the traffic on the freeway and roads surrounding it. more

The Getty is like Disneyland compared to the neighborhood playground. Families, friends, singles, couples and groups all enjoy a relaxing visit for just a few hours or for all day. The buildings and gardens are a wonder to explore, a true gift to all of us in Southern California. Children and adults love to stroll around the beautiful open architecture... more

I didn't really have many expectations for the Getty Center except that everyone told me I "had to go." I'm glad I did. The art contained within the walls is just ok (skip the audio tour and try to get on one of the higlight tours, 11 am on the day we were there). It's the building complex itself that... more

They have designed the most human friendly museum. Many places to rest and reflect and the garden is wonderful. Not the greatest collection, but very good. The Garden Cafe was awful- like eating at an airport- but that is very minor. Plan to spend the day. It is completely fabulous. more

The negative: crowds galore but I expected this - I did my best to ignore them. Harsh HARSH white light reflects off of all of the light colored buildings, even with dark sunglasses and a cap. Completely "boxed" in high walls, separated from the attractive chapparral. I thought that the picnic area would be more nature-friendly, but even outdoors, you... more

I didn't have transport so opted for the Starline tour. We had a nice ride through Hollywood and Beverly HIlls with the driver giving us plenty of information about the areas we travelled through. I love art but this took second place to the building and gardens. Despite there being quite a few school parties in that day, there are... more

I just came from my first ever visit to the renowned Getty Museum, which is perched on top of a mountain near the 405 freeway in Los Angeles. The architecture is actually the most impressive part of the museum, not the contents of the museum itself. It's a wonder how they built this $1 billion structure complete with a 7-level... more
