Brilliant isn't enough to describe the attraction of Beale Street. Every night is music night with a wide choice of venues which line both sides of the street, most if not all of them providing cheap well cooked food. Lots of fun wandering from place to place listening to music. Went on a Saturday night when things were really hopping, seemed to be either kids just barely old enough to get in or old fogies like us. Police security is very tight so felt safe. more

You don't have to be a die hard blues fan to love this little and cozy street. I read some comments comparing beale with bourbon street in new orleans but no they are totally different. This is a much more safe place with a soul in it. more

I expected Beale Street to be a lot like Bourbon Street in New Orleans -- congested, dirty, smelly, loud and potentially dangerous. I was very pleasantly surprised. Our tour included 2 hours, self guided, at this Memphis lowlight. Back in the day it may have been something special but now it is simply a waste of your time.
