From the minute you approach Monument Valley and see the first giant fock formation, you know you have entered another world. But it is not until you've entered the valley itself that you are swept into a landscape that overwhelms your sense of self and proportion. It is as if you've entered a city of a land of giants. My husband and I visited in May and it was the highlight of our southwest trip. There is nowhere more beautiful, especially at sunset. We opted to take the "behind-the-scenes" tour and Richard was our guide. He was down to earth and had a great since of humor (he even did some rattlesnake hunting for me). There wasn't anyone else... more

Previous reviewers mentioned that this should be a national park. I say "no way!" This park does NOT need paved roads, pulloffs with little signs, restrooms, or roads crowded with RVs. This park is exactly what it should be...remote, quiet, and worth a bit of effort to see. After reading reviews, I made sure to rent an SUV for this... more

I have been fortunate enough to have visited Monument Valley at least 4 different times and hope to be able to visit again some day. It is truly one of my most favorite of all the vacation spots I have ever been. We have been out there and stayed at Gouldings, which I loved. We have been out there and... more

Very scenic area but we found that a jeep tour isn't necessary and in fact hinders your photos. You can take better shots from the observation area of the landscape. Don't bother with a tour because photos close up of very large rocks - well - why? You are allowed to drive this area yourself if you have the proper... more

We stayed in Sedona, AR so we could tour the Grand Canyon, then drive through Monument Valley on to Arches Park near Moab, Utah. We saw so much beauty in Sedona and at the canyon we decided to pass on the Navajo tribal park. We saw quite a bit of the monuments just driving through. We spent time at the... more

It's true the road around Monument valley is very rough, mind you we did it in a rented compact vehicle lol. Even though it is a gruelling road, the scenery more than makes it worthwhile. $5 per person entry is a bargain IMO. Of course the Navajo could pave the road in tasteful fashion, but then they would hike the... more

On our way to Las Vegas we wanted to make Monument Valley one of the stops. Upon entry to the park ($5.00 per person), the entry fee collector was rude and inconsiderate, I think her name was Lulu or something like that. After that we drove down what they call "The Valley Drive" it was terrible! I was so rough,... more

For any one that has ever watched a John Ford directed Western or any fan of John Wayne movies, a visit to Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park will have thoughts of deja vu. But even those who aren't fans of the old West movies, Monument Valley is a unique landscape unlike any place on Earth. The signs leading to the... more

We opted for one of the Jeep tours from the visitors centre. I expected an informative guide that would explain the geology, the history of the Navajo nation. We didnt get any of that, in fact our guide didnt know much at all about local history or the area. Sure, we saw the wonderful formations and were taken to areas... more
