First of all, TripAdviser would do all travelers a service by separating the categories "Jamestown Settlement" from "Historic Jamestown." This is especially true when you're driving and come to the fork in the road that shows "Historic Jamestown" (the actual archeological digs) to the left and "Jamestown Settlement" (the re-creation and indoor galleries) to the right. If you bought a... more

I didn't expect to be blown away by Historic Jamestown but I was! We went to Jamestown Settlement first & that was truly interesting seeing the rebuilt fort, indian village & ships. Then we went over to Historic Jamestown, the actual site of the first settlement & I truly felt like I was standing on hallowed ground. There is not... more

This is the original Jamestown location - run by the National Park Service. This is not Jamestown Settlement where the reinactors and ships are. There seems to be a lot of confusion between the two sites. My wife, 14 yr old daughter and 10 yr old son went to both sites on the same day. We went to Jamestown Settlement... more

It looks as if some people still have this Historic Jamestowne confused with the Jamestown Settlement. This is the Historic Jamestowne, which is where the original settlement actually was. That's why this is so confusing. Over a hundred men arrived on this small island and died just a few years after their arrival. There is an old church (not as... more

Took the entire family to the Jamestown Settlement (AAA discount if you are a member). All of them enjoyed it, even the kids (17, 8, 5 years old). Once you enter the museum, the first opportunity you have is to watch a short film (24 minutes) on the establishment of Jamestown up through the Virginia Company's dissolution. Then, you can... more

The site and the museum here are remarkable and a must see if you have any interest in Jamestown/early American history. I read a history of the early Jamestown years before we came and it really really helped us appreciate the site and the artifacts in the museum. The tour guide we had was excellent and told us about the... more

Please note, of the recent reviews, the May 20 and March 5 ones are from the Jamestown Settlement, not for this-Historic Jamestown. This is the National Park Site. The more commercial one is fabulous for kids, but our 3 kids, ages 5-10, also really enjoyed this. You do not need as much time for this one-maybe a couple hours or... more

As some other reviewers have noted, but it's worth repeating -- do NOT confuse this with Jamestown Settlement. If you're looking for ships and Indian villages you want Jamestown Settlement, just up the road. This is the National Park Service area, and is the site of the real village. But, since the city of Jamestown pretty much ceased to exist... more

We recently spent and afternoon at Historic Jamestown. The facilities were great, and the kids loved the fort, ships and Indian village. We (my wife and I) enjoyed the museum exhibits. It was a lovely day outside to wander about. The grounds are clean and well kept. There's an indian village that you can walk through as well as an... more

Historic Jamestowne is the actual location of John Smith and the 104 boys & men that first came to Virginia. Not to be confused with the Jamestown Settlement museum and settlement recreation park with replica ships - located just a short distance away. Historic Jamestowne is still be excavated and shows the camp to the best of the archeologists findings... more
