A very nice, clean, organized B&B in the suburbs of London. Although it was off the tourist track, it was a perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown London. My partner and I just got home from a one week stay at Melrose House, and we were very happy with the experience! We stayed in Room 3, with the canopy bed, and slept very soundly in the comfy bed with soft sheets and down comforter. We stayed there during the summer vacation of 2008 (in Jul). The only regret I had was that we could only spend 2 nights at Melrose House as the rest of the month was fully booked! I've stayed at Melrose House on two occasions. My experience was wonderful each time. Room #2 is my favorite as it provides you with the large bathroom just across the hall. We stayed at Melrose house for 21 days in October. The house is about a 8 minute walk to the Penge East railway station, and then about 18 minutes into Victoria Station, where you can branch out into any area of London. Penge is an older town, with the Old Estalishment living there. (Mayberry USA of the 1950s). Such charm!... more
