The Angel hotel has an old facade and opens onto the town car park in the centre of Bury St Edmunds - it is difficult to tell this from the photos on their website. I was in room 009 which was in the new section which has a number of rooms around an outsidecourtyard. I read Tripadvisor reviews and took... more

We stayed one night at the Angel, and were very happy with our stay. Based on the comments here, I requested a contemporary room that faced on the courtyard, rather than on the square. Our room was nicely furnished with tasteful contemporary decor. The bathroom was very spacious (only complaint was the unweighted shower curtain which kept blowing in in... more

Stayed at The Angel for husbands 40th birthday. One night only, a Friday, with their Dine and recline deal. As relatives had previously stayed at The Angel we made sure we requested a refurbished room for our stay and was not disappointed. Room 108 had a large bed, on a quiet side of the hotel and the bathroom contained a... more

I was treated to a weekend at the Angel, and wow what a treat it was. It's a really really lovely hotel, and the location is stunning - directly opposite the Abbey Gate which leads into the abbey gardens, with the Cathedral right next door and the town centre literally a stroll away. The Abbey Gardens include the ruins of... more

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights for a family wedding and we had a great experience. Check in was a breeze and our room was ready even though we arrived before check in time. We had room 214 (the Daniel Defoe) room which was lovely. It overlooked Angel square and is the only room with... more

The location and room were both spectacular - our family suite was stylish and had grandeur without being intimidating, and had views across the car park to the gates and cathedral opposite. For the price, though, service and attention to detail were lacking. I feel it would be nice to show guests to their rooms, rather than pointing out a... more

Stayed at the Angel for two nights in Aug 08. Cost £130 per night (standard twin room). Here’s what I think you need to know… Location: Superb. You are right in the centre of this small town. Shops, restaurants, theatre, sites and gardens all within walking distance. Check in and reception: quick and efficient. Friendly helpful staff. Lobby and lounge... more

My husband and I stayed at the Angel Hotel for one night and had a terrific experience. We booked a standard room but upon arrival we were given a suite which was an added bonus. The room was lovely, very clean and had central A/C. A perfect mix of old and new! The front desk staff were friendly and the... more

I stayed at The Angel during a weeklong business trip to the UK. As you can see from the visitor photos others have posted, there are two distinct styles of rooms available. Not knowing this ahead of time, I was put in one of older rooms in the hotel. Not a single thing had been updated in this room for... more

I was on a course through work and this had been booked on my behlaf for £91 a night. Its quite a charming building. The big pluses were the staff who were most helpful, especially the Night Porter, and the breakfasts which were really good. The drawback was the room - it was a little bit dated compared to the... more
