We stayed at the Al Bandar. The hotel complex and restaurants are fabulous. Service is always friendly and efficient. If you're going and someone else is paying, then fantastic, if you got to pay yourself, beware, because with the low exchange rate, this hotel is now very expensive. A pint of beer will cost you £6 and the cheapest bottle of... more

The Al Husn at Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah resort in Muscat, Oman was always fabulous – luxurious accommodation in a stunning setting, located on the beach against breath-taking cliffs. But until now, service was a problem. This is no longer the case – it seems as if the new General Manager, Mr Shrestha, and his team have waved a magic... more

We spend 4 nights at the Shangri La's Al Waha in november. The room was booked through AsiaRoom.com which had the best offer. Checking-in was efficient and friendly. We were upgraded to a sea facing room which was nice. Rooms are nice and clean, but nothing to write home about. Generally speaking the resort is perfect but it lacks charm.... more

A Fantastic Holiday We booked the Shangri-la Al Bandar for 4 nights as we wanted to be free to explore the country. We had a room facing the pool , and it was really convenient to be able to open the french windows and be out in a minute avoiding the very cold air condition of the hotel corridors. The... more

Had read mixed reviews on this site before we went so arrived with zero expectations. I have stayed all over the world including many times in 5* Duabi hotels and this is was up there with them. Our reception was welcoming and the staff could not have been more helpfull showing us around our room and explaining everything in detail.... more

Great hotel. It's quite far from Muscat but the hotel - and even the road leading to it - is very beautiful. The restaurants are expensive - we managed over £110 for an excellent dinner our first night (2 courses for 2, no puddings; one bottle of wine). Great breakfast. Exquisite beach and the lazy river is fun. Highly recommended. more

The hotel complex is located half an hour out of Muscat city on a bay with two small beaches a long way from anywhere else. Its 10-15 rials [$30-40 US] for a taxi to Muscat. The surrounding area is devoid of greenery and is arid dessert hills. The actual hotel site looks a little like a quarry. There is considerable... more

We stayed at the Al Bandar. First the good bits: 1. Excellent service from charming staff; 2. Really comfortable bed, great bathroom; 3. Lovely pools with lots of sunbeds and attentive beach staff bringing iced flannels, melon, and chilled water; 4. Attractive sandy beach, masses of room, camels there in the afternoon looked very picturesque. 5. Sitting out in the evening... more

Nice hotel for the kids as it was very safe and the selection of pools kept them occupied. The 'lazy river' was also a big hit. However as a captive audience you certainly paid for the food and drinks! Very average bottle of wine was £30 and a basic pasta £20. The atmosphere was also very subdued. Large communal areas... more
