I was last at the Pontchartrain in during St Patrick's Day back in 2001. It was one of those grand old hotels that I feel lucky enough to have stayed at. I was back in New Orleans in August of 2007 and sorry to say that the ol' girl is no longer open. There is renovations going on but everyone... more

We felt manipulated. They "couldnt" find our reservation, and tried to bully us into spending more money than we wanted for another room. My best friend had her wedding party stayed here years ago and had the same problem. She'd even signed a contract for a block of rooms, and they screwed her anyway. We resisted and they gave us... more

My husband had to attend a class for work in New Orleans in December 1999. (1999 wasn't in the drop down box so I chose the earliest date listed which was 2004). That was our second trip to New Orleans, the first was in May 1999. I chose that hotel as I am an avid reader and the characters in... more

The rooms were small so I wouldn't rate them as excellent but they were good enough for my husband and me since we spent most of the time not in the room. The staff were very friendly and helpful when we asked them questions about things to do in the area. Also the hotel was conveniently only a few steps... more

My wife and I stayed at the Ponchartrain May 2007 for 4 nights for our niece's graduation from Tulane. It had been a favorite hotel of my sister and brother-in-law, who had stayed at the Pontchartrain many times. My sister warned us that "the bloom has faded" from this formerly grand hotel. Our assessment is that the bloom is gone.... more

This hotel is a sentimental favorite of mine, and I've stayed here many times before and after Katrina. True, there is peeling paint. There is peeling paint in many old buildings in New Orleans due to the high humidity. The hotel is in need of renovation for sure, but the rooms I have stayed in have all been clean at... more

After reading reviews of The Pontchartrain Hotel in New Orleans’s Garden District, I feel compelled to relate my family’s recent experience with this hotel. From the moment I made the reservations for a block of rooms in June 2006 for our daughter’s June 23, 2007 wedding, through to the actual wedding week in New Orleans, The Pontchartrain treated my family... more

The desk clerk greeted us warmly and was very helpful. We went to our room and were appalled at the stains on the carpet. We had read that the hotel had been renovated. I asked to be moved and the desk clerk very kindly moved us. This room was equally appalling. There were tiny bugs swimming in a puddle of... more

The following review is based upon my recent stay with a group renting 10 rooms. If you were to read the hotels description on their website one would think you are staying at a beautiful historic property. Prehistoric would be more appropriate. Nowhere will you find the words restored or refurbished. In any other major city this place would be... more

OH MY GOODNESS! For those who don't feel like reading the whole review I'll sum it up for you...I'D RATHER STAY IN THE PUBLIC RESTROOM OF A TRAIN STATION THAN STAY HERE! I booked the room ONLY because there were others in our party that reserved rooms here for St Patrick's Day. The only good I can write about my... more
