The beautiful lodge was created by Frank Lloyd Wright. The location was perfect, we were in the heart of Custer Park minutes from Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse. We walked down to Sylvan Lake which was just beautiful. We were minutes from the eye of the needle, all of the beautiful tunnels through the rocks, and there were animals along the... more

We spent two nights at the lodge so that we could enjoy beautiful Sylvan Lake. This was our first time at the lodge. The lounge area is beautiful, but the restaurant could use a little facelift. Restaurant a little overpriced. Service at the lounge was not great - they were not busy at all but we waited 15 minutes for... more

We are a family of 6, with 4 young children. We loved our stay in the Lodge. It is close to beautiful Sylvan Lake and has a view of Harney Peak out the back deck of the Lodge. The staff provided excellent, personal service. Our room was also spacious (cannot often say that with a family our size). The dining... more

First of all, Sylvan Lake and the surrounding area has one of the most scenic and unique landscapes of anywhere I have ever been. Giant Rock out croppings can be seen everywhere ranging in size from a few feet to several 100 feet high. My family of 14 stayed in 2 of the larger cabins. They're located within a few... more

We stayed in the cabins of the Sylvan Lake Lodge. Many of them are within a one minute walking distance of the Lodge. The logde common area has a small bar and a very high ceiling with specious feeling. Fine to relax when it is too cold, dark or wet outside. Otherwise the Sylvan Lake area is too nice to... more

We wanted to stay somewhere in the Black Hills where we would be close to Harney Peak. Came across this reosrt on a web site. Both the resort and the staff were great. The setting of the resort in the Hills was wonderful. The only bad thing was the snow when we left. Would recommend it to anyone. more

We arrived at the end of May expecting a beautiful view. Unfortunately, the temperature dropped the day we arrived and we found ourselves in a foggy blizzard and never were able to see any of the surrounding scenery. Dinner was suprisingly poor for a meal of this price. The mushroom/buffalo plate was missing the mushrooms and was served without butter/sour... more

We stayed at the Sylvan Lake Lodge for a family trip to Mt. Rushmore area. The lobby of the lodge has a beautiful rustic ambience. Our room was clean and spacious, although the furnishings were a little outdated. One thing to note, we thought this would be within walking distance to Sylvan Lake for the kids, but it was not... more

Terrible, with caveats. Initial problem was we tried to book our room on their web site. Despite saying there were rooms available, entering my CC info, the site bombed and said no rooms. Hmm. Turns out it booked our cc anyway and we had to spend an hour on the phone a few days later to get it straightened out.... more

We spent a night at the lodge on our visit to Mt. Rushmore (about a 30 minute drive - short drive by South Dakota standards). We had rooms 306 and 204. The one on the second floor was the larger of the two, and very comfortable for our family of 4. The one on the third floor was slightly smaller... more
