My boyfriend stayed here with our golden retriever. The hotel staff was so lovely and accommodating. The front desk clerk was immediately welcoming and was so wonderful to our dog and immediately gave her a bag of treats. We were upgraded to a living room suite so the dog could have extra space and she immediately treated the living room... more

Reviewer: Patrick & Shirley, Bucks. UK We are very well travelled and this is the first time we have been made so welcome in a large hotel. We were shown up to our room where everything was explained to us. We were addressed by name in the bar and restaurant as well as at reception. Everyone was extremely helpful and... more

I want to give five stars to The Jefferson, but I always seem to have a mixed experience there. Firstly, this is considered THE place to stay in Richmond, and there are certainly no other hotels nearby that compare in reputation or elegance. However, I seem to find that the reality isn't quite in line with the hype about this... more

Firstly, the hotel IS beautiful. It is a grand building and the public areas are majestic. What let the whole thing down for us was the service. The only thing I can conclude is that we didn't tip heavily enough. We're from Northern Ireland and tipping is not common practice here.( We're not stupid and fully realise it is there.)... more

This was our second stay at this beautiful property. Last time, we spent two days sightseeing in Richmond; this time we stopped for just one night on a long journey. What a treat! As before, the lovely service began in the driveway, when the valet took our car and the bellman our bags. Checkin was flawless. Our room was beautiful--not... more

We had a smaller room, but it was a delightful experience. The little extras they do at the Jefferson make the stay very enjoyable. I would recommend it to everyone. Coffee service in the morning and cookies and cider in the afternoon in the lobby. Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. more

I stayed at the Jefferson Hotel on Sunday 5 October 2008. I had a business meeting on the Monday morning and went outside to ask for a taxi to take me to my meeting, which I knew was approximately 10/15 minutes away. A few minutes later, a town car pulled up and I assumed that since there wasn’t a taxi... more

I have stayed here many times in the past and the staff if always polite and will go out of their way to see that you get what you are paying for. I love the Sunday brunch and valet parking is cheap compared to Washington and Philadelphia. When I think of the Jefferson I think WOW. If you can afford... more

I am surprised this is a 5 star hotel! The lobby is gorgeous and the rooms were comfortable but nothing special. I have stayed at 3 and 4 star hotels that had much better service. While waiting for an elevator, a hotel employee jumped in front of me onto the elevator as the door opened. There were several travelers in... more

Sometimes it's hard to splurge on a great hotel - because the hype and publicity doesn't come close with the reality. The Jefferson Hotel deserves its five star and five diamond rating. Most good hotels cut corners with insufficient employee staffing, use of college or foreign interns, and generally they often lower the standards of expectations. Checking in at the... more
