This Lodge is set in the rocks overlooking the battle field of Isandlwana (where the British suffered an enormous defeat at the hands of the Zulus). It has views stretching for at least 50 miles and is extremelty well designed and fits beautilfully into the landscape. It was built by two American women - one of whom lives there miost... more

Great location overlooking the battlefields and village-hotel very sympathetically built-blends into mountainside. Accomodation excellent and staff very helpful. Rooms had stunning views. more

We stayed at Isandlwana Lodge for two nights, but would have happily stayed longer. The setting, overlooking the site of the Isandlwana battle is awesome, with a stark, haunting beauty. The lodge itself is sympathetically and attractively built into the landscape, making the most of the vistas with large floor to ceiling windows and terracing outside. Our room, one of... more

The hotel occupies a stunning hillside location overlooking the battlefield and includes, as standard, lecture visits to both the Isandlwana battlefield (where the Zulus defeated the British on 22 January 1879) and Rorke’s Drift (immortalised in the film ‘Zulu’). This is an excellent hotel with very attentive staff and good food (a pity, though that dinner is, for no particular... more

I had a very short period of time, in which I was determined to see Rorkes Drift. I arrived at the hotel at lunchtime, and was told that the Rorkes Drift trip had taken place that morning. However, it was arranged at very short notice that Dalton, a Zulu, and descendant of a chief who had fought at Isandlwana, would... more

Nestled in the rocky escarpment overlooking the battlefield of Isandlwana, the lodge provides idyllic accomodation for travellers to the battlefields' area. The rooms are beautifully appointed with large comfy beds and locally made furniture. Bathrooms are a dream complete with fluffy towels and Molton Brown toiletries. All rooms have great views over the battlefields. Service in the hotel was excellent... more

The lodge is built into a hillside where the Zulu King watched the Battle of Isandlwana. The lodge is the vision of two American ladies who met on a plane and agreed to build this lodge as their project. It is quite unique, almost camouflaged into the hillside. There are only twelve rooms, each having a private balcony overlooking the... more

This hotel is amazing - in fact it was more like visiting some old (well off!) friends. With only 12 rooms, none of which have a TV, guests are encouraged by the polite and amiable staff to mingle and converse. The rooms were of a good standard, clean and well maintained. If the lack of a TV puts you off,... more

Stayed from 11th to 13th of April and had a fantastic time. Rooms are simple but stylish. The views from the balcony stunning, and the place has a fantastic feel of Africa about it. The staff were very helpful, especially the barman Dalton who doubled up as our guide for the battlefields tour. He had an extensive knowledge of the... more

The lodge is spectacularly built half way up a cliff with a tremendous view of the Battlefield. There are only 12 rooms of a very high standard. The food is excellent. The hotel has a very good guide who is resident at the hotel and escorts groups around the battlefield and Rorkes Drift. His descriptions of both battles are excellent... more
