In the hills above Ballena National Park is nestled Costa Rica's smallest Jungle Boutique Hotel - Las Terrazas de Ballena. Formerly the Balcon de Uvita and known for its spectacular ocean views of the "Whales Tail" reef and Cano Island. The newly opened Las Terrazas de Ballena has just completed a half million dollar renovation, including furnishings inspired and imported from Thailand and a new road up the mountain to get there. Las Terrazas de Ballena is a three-acre compound and now has six Terrazas that look like they are floating in the jungle. Two terraces are an open-air restaurant and lounge, three are private living spaces for the bungalows and one surrounds our tropical swimming pool and waterfall. All have the same spectacular view of the only Whale Park in Costa Rica (Ballena National Park). more » « less

Beautiful, clean, comfortable, very hospitable, friendly, fun, relaxing, cool people, peaceful, calming, very secluded, authentic Costa Rica retreat and get-a-way, great restaurant, five star, fantastic. These are just a few words I would use to describe our experience there. We loved it and we cannot wait to go back. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Pura... more

This place is like nothing I have been to before. We arrived at night so it was dark and we couldnt see the view. The owners were gracious enough to invite us to the Thanksgiving dinner they had at their restaurant for close friends and staff and we had a blast, not to mention the best Thanksgiving dinner...We woke up... more

If not the most, one of the most amazing vacations I've had. Well traveled individual here and this was an amazing and unique vacation; full of first class service, beautiful bungalows, stunning views and very hospitable people. The rooms are top notch, decorating nicely with all the necessary offerings. Very comfortable beds and temperature inside the bungalows. Lounging on the... more

We did not want to leave this beautiful place. Our trip started out on a great drive from San Jose to Uvita. We stopped along the way to eat and drink at some very cool places. The scenary was awesome. Once arriving at Terrazas de Ballena we setteled into our very cozy cabina. The deck at tree top level was... more

I have to say I had never been to Costa Rica and my biggest fear was the conditions of where I was to stay. I heard it was a third world country with all the scariness that comes with that and that there were bugs big enough to...Well you get the picture. I felt so lucky to have found Terrazas... more

This is one of of those places when you get there, you say, "I wish I knew about this before. And now I never want to leave." Not only is the property charming, the people who run it are even better. Las Terrazas de Ballena is THE BEST! more

The bungalows are AWESOME with stunning views and complete privacy in the jungle. The howler monkeys, along with the other jungle noises gave us background music one can only find on a CD. The toucans would fly down the mountain at sunset and feed off the trees right by our bungalow. I felt like I was on the Travel Channel... more

I escaped my 2 kiddies and hubby for a fun in the sun week with my best friend and it was amazing!! The food at Terrazas was a huge treat - presentation and quality abounds! The staff and the management were 2nd to NONE! If I could make this an annual escape I would - it was the perfect blend... more

Being here is like nestling into a treehouse in the middle of the greenest place in the universe...WITH 500 THREAD COUNT SHEETS! Really gorgeous/hip rooms, super cool staff and yummy snacks. As a single girl travelling..the staff totally hoooked me up with fun stuff to do, the Tikko bars & all the cool beaches in the area...I totally felt like... more

Me and my friends had the best time at Terrazas. We rented all three bungalows and it was like having a resort all to yourself. The staff was amazing and the owners, Jonny and Chad, were so nice and helpful - telling us all the great things to do in the area. The restaurant above is outstanding. The view is... more
