“poor room, dreadful spa treatments”

Wild Pheasant Hotel

Nov 10, 2008

I went for a Spa weekend.
The bar and restaurant are ok. Had nice buffet lunch and ok evening meal which was par of ourpackage- not sure if it would have been good value otherwise.
The spa treatments were very poor with young girls doing them. We really didnt have a good experience and I have emailed the hotel a complaint- but I have had nothing in return. The actual spa pool is nice with nice lounge chairs.
Rooms were ok- a bit old fashioned with random bits of furniture and very old electrical equipment- hairdryer and trouser press!!

“Adequate”

Wild Pheasant Hotel

We've stayed here a few times, largely because accommodation in Llangollen is often overbooked and we haven't been able to get in anywhere better. The hotel is outside the town centre but within a comfortable walking distance.

The accommodation in the hotel is split into two, the rooms in the old part (tried once and never ever again) and those in the "new" wing which are OK. We normally stay in a junior suite which is basically a large double (the other doubles in the new wing are quite small). The first time we stayed in the new wing, about 4/5 years ago, we thought the rooms where quite good. However, maintenance is very poor, so walls need repainting, carpets need cleaning/replacing, beds need to be renewed, net curtains are grey with age and have cigarette burns, the hose on our shower needed replacing last time, the threshold bar to the bathroom was damaged the time before. The list is endless.

The breakfasts are not great - I don't even bother to go, but save my appetite for something in town.

The service is also poor - the staff don't acknowledge your presence unless you interrupt their conversation. On our last visit we complained of the smell of smoke in the room and were initially told that there couldn't be smoke as the rooms were checked daily - I felt like I was being called a liar. We were eventually offered a discount which we accepted. I know hoteliers can't always stop guests from smoking, but it was the way the issue was dealt with that was so poor.

“Worst Bed Ever!”

Wild Pheasant Hotel

My guidebook recommended this place but the room and bed were by far the worst I have ever slept in. The room was in the very back and I am guessing the mattress was from the 1940's....you could actually see the coils. It was so tiny and over the kitchen so you could smell the meat cooking for dinner. The meal was unimaginative with the only glimmer of hope a delicious pear dessert.

“Great Place to Stay”

Wild Pheasant Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Peterborough
Sep 25, 2008

My wife and I recently stayed at the Wild Pheasant when we visited relatives in Llangollen. THe hotel is about a five minute walk from the main high street.
The room was a superior double and was lovely and clean with a bath and shower and digital telly.
We ate in the restaurant twice and the food was excellent with what we thought was a really wide choice for each course.
We have the same waiter at our table each night and he was absolutely charming with nothing seemingly too much trouble.
We made use of the free spa facilities once during our stay and it was great to be able to sit in the spacious spa pool and be able to see all the grounds outside while we relaxed.
A great stay and we would not hesitate to return or recommend the hotel.
This is only our second visit to Llangollen since my brother moved there and it really was lovely with a truly picturesque town centre and a freindly feel.

My Husband and i visited this hotel to use the spa and have a nice meal as it was our weddding anniversary the spa facilaties seemed very good even though all the members of staff were little more than children there was no spa manager or anyone of authority so the girls seemed to be left to there own devises. some of the girls in the spa are not fully qualified and are carrying out treatments on members of the public that have payed for packages ect thinking they are getting qualified staff but this is not alway the case i would advise anyone having a treatment to ask to see proof of training after having a treatment in the spa we went for a meal . we waited an awfully long time for it to arrive only for them to have sent me the wrong meal . my husband went to the bar to complain.a young boy took my food away and left my husband to eat his even though i had not got mine .my husband ate very slowly in the hope that my meal would arrive and we could eat together my meal eventually arrived upon receiving it i took a large mouthful of home made coleslaw which to my absolute horror was off we complained to the managment ( some one called hailley ) she took my meal off to the kitchen and came back saying the chef appologised the coldslaw should have been binned and another meal would follow. by now my husband had finished his meal leaving me to eat alone i could not believe how our day had been ruined the management do not want to be bothered with any complaints they just seem to want to sit behind the reception desk chatting and drinking tea thank god it was only a day trip i would not stay at this hotel if they were paying me.
