We checked into the Inn at Lathones for dinner, bed and breakfast, in order to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
We have had numerous family and friends (who all come from the local area) recommend the Inn to us in the past (although I now know that the last time any of these went there for a meal was a year ago).
We were both very happy with the room, and the initial service (reception, welcome etc.) was excellent - and we were looking forward to a fantastic dining experience to follow - but found a little something lacking. The staff were very polite, but it was the attention to detail that was missing - great food yes, but in order to make it a great dining experience you need more than just good food - the whole staff should be working as one to provide service - and this just wasn't the case.
We felt that we were rushed through our courses, and swiftly moved on from our table to allow for another cover, even though there were empty tables. During the meal our requests were met with smiles, but little in the way of action, and my one (small) complaint about the food was greeted with a polite smile, but no apology or explanation.
At this price, I expected better. We had a good time, but not a great time, and in my opinion Peter Jukes' restaurant in Cellardyke is leagues ahead of the current Inn at Lathones.
