Our family stayed in the Jaz Mirabel Beach for 1 week All-inc (2x rooms) 14th-21st Aug but wish we booked at least 10 days as by the time we unwound/found our way around the hotel (and our preferred restaurants) that took a couple of days to find..
Rooms: We had a family room each and next door - good view, very clean, Ahmed made incredible 'surprises' from our beach towels for the children (aged 5-9) bless him..
Restaurants: As in most All inclusive, was a bit 'mad' at peak times...(after 9am & 7.30 pm) other nationalities (not Brits of course!) pushing in etc,, however food was very good - lots of choice (and some cooked fresh for you at some counters) once you get into the swing it's great. We preferred the restaurant that required gents to wear trousers in the evening (on the right as you leave reception, facing the pools) and the pool bar on the right near reception at lunchtime (swimwear ok) as it was a novelty to order & have lunch served as opposed to fighting & helping yourself - i mean queueing, in the main restaurants...!
Drinks: I'm a chardonnay girlie but found the rose ok, my parents also liked the rose and the red. Beer pretty good too, my hubby found the vodka & coke better than our last hotel in Sharm...cocktails safe bet also :o)
Pools: Early bird catches the sunbed... as in most hotels..as there were 6 of us so the adults got up from 7-8am (in turns) and laid the towels down (felt v. german ;o) ) to ensure we got beds together. This sometimes wasn't early enough(!) to get the 'baby pools' as some families had beat us to it. however there were plenty of spaces at the big pools & I'm sure couples wouldn't have problems.
Beach: our last hotel had plenty of fish to snorkle with but we felt v. disappointed here. Lots of sunbeds/shade on beach and all Red Sea is coral so sea shoes are a must!!
Hotel In general: Very large hotel & grounds, so lots of walking - got to be fit (to walk off the food!) This was a good thing really as everything was spread out nicely (sunbeds, pools, different restaurants) it just takes a day or so to suss out what you like & where you want to sunbathe. Also VERY slippery - be careful!!
Staff: 50/50 some very pleasant and jokey - others... not :o)
The Egyptians love children in a friendly healthy way and our 2 had a great time
Trips: Main reason for visiting Sharm was diving as my husband & i had been before.. Dived with Ocean college this time(last time Camel) both v. good & lots to see (saw a family of eagle ray this time!! plus the usual fish (parrot, lion, puffa, nemo!..)
Whole family went snorkling on the 'Red Sea Cruise' Enjoyed by all except the 5 yr old so we took in turns to stay on the boat with him. Boat crew & food brill (and toilets!) - and saw dolphins to top it off.'Stars & dinner' brilliant if you are ok with the egyptian food (spiced rice, chicken etc..) Star gazing fantastic & Bedwin people v.friendly Quad biking in desert- my husband & Dad enjoyed - v hot & dusty but great fun.
Health: I had terrible tummy on our last visit (& for 2 months after!!) but the diving has enticed me back.. This time we all took Acidophulus tablets (health supplement to aid your gut when travelling..Health store or Boots) prior & during, and we avoided the salad, ice, chicken, unpeeled fruit and took antibacterial handwash for trips. Also took Rehydration sachets (Boots) to add to water if feel bit lightheaded which were brill as was v hot 39c. Some of us had dodgey tummy (or sharm sh*tes) for 1 day or so but otherwise were in good health unlike last time we visited Sharm. Drink LOTS of bottled water in the day!! Or help yourself from the water dispensers at the pool bars. Beer good in moderation in this heat during the day :o)
Spa: Jacuzzi, steam room & sauna - pretty hard to find..its near the tennis courts (right H side when leaving reception) but signposts are a bit 'wonky'.. Spa nice & relaxing though & cheapest massage GBP 30
Overall: We had fab time, but wish we had booked a little longer. Tips in general: Egyptian Pounds,& EURO main currency - they also accept USD. most tips to pay out are 20 Egyptian per tourist per person (camel person, driver, tour guide) GBP 2 Didnt visit Naama bay except Diving this time as didnt fancy haggling with the kids in tow..Cairo great trip (did last time) but long day, dirty city, awesome sites (take loo roll & handwash!)
Enjoy!!
