Bula!!

Fiji is a fantastic place with fantastic people and what a better way to experience Fiji than at Coconut Grove. Ronna and her staff are all extremely sweet and make you feel right at home. CG is a tiny place with only three bures (cottages). If five star gleaming marble pamper me like I'm a movie star is what you are shooting for, go ahead and pay 1000 a night to stay somewhere else. If what you are looking for is a comfy bure, great service by some Fijians who are genuinely sweet all on a beautiful and quiet beach CG is for you.

The beach. On Taveuni Ronna's beach is good (if you want glorious white sand beaches go to the Manumuccas with a hundred other people) with enough sand to hang out on and with beautiful turquise waters. Perfect water for a swim, or use the provided kayaks to paddle out to one of the nearby islands. And if snorkeling is your thing, you have come to a great place. The reef is out a bit and requires a little work, but once out there it is well worth the swim.

Ronna's restaurant was definetly a plus. Everything cooked fresh to order by Bimla and crew you are in for a treat. Several other people who came to eat from other resorts confirmed that Ronna's food is the best on the island. The food was very good, very fresh with a enough variety to keep us interested for over a week with what was coming next.

The hardest part to get used to though was this whole Fiji time thing. Coming from the states where is everything is pre-arranged down to the smallest detail, some of our tour arrangements left us wondering. However, everything always worked out, or as the Fijians say, "No worries". We were scheduled to go for a rain forest hike. We got to the village and they said they didn't know we were coming. We waited for 10 minutes, a guide showed up and we went for a fantastic hike in the forest. No worries.

One of our highlights was a scuba dive we did with Carl at Taveuni Dive at Ronna's suggestion. Carl was awesome, ok the reefs played some part in my feelings. But Carl was super knowledgable and took us to some pretty special dive sites. Thanks to Ronna for the recommendation to go to Carl's. Ronna was very knowledgable and a great source of information about the island and can help make your stay meet your expectations.

Long story short. Coconut Grove gets high marks for service, quality food, a quiet and super beautiful setting, excellent snorkeling on a good beach.

sitting at a breakfast of fresh fruit looking out over sparkling blue waters with coconut fronds waving in the light breeze it was hard to imagine anyone giving Coconut Grove a bad review.

breakfast need not be rushed it goes from 7.30 until midday.

The location is just outstanding - million dollar views completely unspoilt by development or noise despite the airport being about 200 yds away. Only gets 2/3 small planes a day.

We stayed in banana bure which is a great choice - closest to the beach with great views from the room & outside shower. Why would u ever shower inside with views like these.

Large comfortable bed & the ceiling fans keep you cool. Lots of CD's & books in the room & a mini fridge to keep the beers cold. Coconut Grove does not sell beer but are happy for you to purchase it locally & keep in fridge.

With a maximum of 8 guests - 3 bures & a guest room in main house ( would not be my choice ) Coconut Grove is an intimate location where guests naturally talk to each other over breakfast or dinner.

Ronna is lovely as are her staff & I suspect she employs more than she actually needs .All of the staff remember every guests name & always have big smiles .

Eating spots in Matei are quite limited but there are enough to provide variety & the food at Coconut Grove is superb. My Fijian style lobster was one of the best i have ever eaten & probably the cheapest at $24 including veggies & garlic bread.

Snorkelling is excellent although a long way out for the nervous. Ronna & the girls can organise snorkelling trips elsewhere & Garden Island resort was particularly good for that.

I just wished we could have stayed longer than 6 nights.

All we can say is that Fiji was a dream come true. My wife and I were married on the sandy beach in front of Coconut Grove. It was at sunset and the staff treated us like we were their only concern in the world. It was magical.

When we first arrived to Fiji, we did not know what to expect, being that it was our first time in the South Pacific. Ronna (the owner) greeted us with a friendly smile and a team of smiling faces behind her to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Right away, our unknown travel jitters were replaced with comfort and relaxation.

My parents arrived the next day, and we were married two days later. The staff will impress you with their knowledge of the food they serve, and the unique time and patience that they use to decorate with foliage and flowers. They grow their vegetables in a garden (which we highly recommend taking the tour) so you can taste the freshness in the meals they prepare.

With the staff feeding us so well, and the comfort being such a wonderful experience, we parted after five days, only to return to visit the staff during the afternoon before our flight. Just to say goodbye one more time, and to squeeze in one more delicious lunch before we left.

We went to multiple islands on our fiji trip, but Taveuni will always be our first destination when we return. The moment you get off the plane, you just have to say to yourself..."So this is paradise?"

Taveuni was different from the other islands we visited. It seemed to be more relaxing, without feeling like you are in a resort area. You feel like family, and I recommend wandering around town and trying some new food, and meet some good people. If you are into Scuba Diving, beware, you may not ever want to leave, Fiji is truly a beautiful place, on land and underwater as well. Just thinking about it makes think I know what the perfect anniversary present would be.....a trip back to Coconut Grove.... to paradise!

Fiji wouldn't have been the same if not for Coconut Grove. It's not just the excellent food (exquisite dishes, both indian and fijian. And, as an italian, i must admit: good Ravioli), the magnificent location on the beach just meters away from the reef, the silence, the peacefulness, the coziness: it's the people that work there. The staff is always extremely kind and always makes the guests happy with their cheerfulness.
And Ronna, the owner, is an amazing host, full of energy, talking to everyone, treating them as guests in her own home, enabling the guests to meet one another. And is always full of the best advice on what to do in the Island.

Coconut Grove is a wonderful place to stay. There are only three bures and the property is right on the beach. This along with the extremely helpful and friendly staff makes you feel like you are being welcomed into a family.
The bure we stayed in was lovely with a view of the ocean and had an enormous private outdoor shower with hot and cold water. The thoughtful touches such as the free massage on arrival, fresh flowers and the staff cutting down a fresh cocunut drink from the palm as we lay on the beach made an already incredible experience into one of the best if not the best holidays we have ever had!
The restaurant looking out over the islands is very relaxing and the food is great. Very fresh and yummy. The fresh fruit smoothies are to die for. The tropical fruit breakfast, included in the price, is lovely as well.
You can loan one of the resort's kayaks and paddle out to the islands on the resort's doorstep for fantastic snorkeling. One of the staff members took me out for a spot of kayak fishing as well. I can not say enough about how the staff made the Taveuni experience wonderful as they suggested places we could go and things we could do, even escourting us on some of the trips as informal friendly guides. They arranged everything we wanted.
This place is one of the best kept secrets of Fiji so be sure to go and enjoy it!
