“Coolest Place on Earth”

Bosque del Cabo

5 of 5 stars
Bellingham
Aug 1, 2008

Bosque del Cabo exceeded all of my expectations. Every employee was welcoming, friendly, thorough, and thoughtful. It felt very relaxed the moment I stepped onto the grounds. The area is breathtaking. Immediately you are greated by macaws flying overhead, lush green plants, and the sound of howler monkeys fill your ears. When you wake up for an early morning walk you are bound to see a Blue Morpho butterfly gliding along the path!

The food was incredible. There was always something for everyone to enjoy. The group dinners were a fantastic way to get to know your fellow travelers and find out where in the world they are from. It seemed that all the guests were eager to chat and have a good time!

If you love nature and animals then you have come to the right place. Every day I hiked one of the many trails to find endless animals, insects, and visual scenery to leave you standing in awe. Walking down to the Pacific ocean is nothing short of amazing. If you catch a low tide then you can find several tide pools that are the size of hot tubs. The luke warm water allows you to just chill out, relax, and watch the waves of the Pacific come rolling in.

Phil and Kim run fabulous lodge. There is plenty for everyone to do. They are very helpful! If it is surfboards you need, they have some for you to rent! If it is a relaxing day by the pool, there are comfortable lawn chairs and delicious drinks available.

Bosque del Cabo also offers connections to other incredible opportunity on the Oso peninsula. Every member of the Bosque del Cabo lodge is eager to help you make the most of your trip. I definitely recommend Bosque del Cabo for anyone who loves adventure mixed with luxury! I hope to return soon.

“Amazing Rainforest Lodge”

Bosque del Cabo

This is the most exciting place we have ever stayed. The scarlet mcaws, monkeys, flowers, food and, not to mention the greatest house, Casa Blanca!! It was the best accomadation for our family. We rented it to be able to cook for our famiy, but after just one meal at the Lodge, we forgot all about cooking. We really like meeting all of the people from different places and hearing about thier expercences during the day. Everyone seemed to love being at Bosque.

We fought over the hammocks on the huge, wrap-around porch at Casa Blanca. I spent many afternoons taking naps there, until the monkeys woke me up!

And the staff, they were great. We had fresh flowers daily in our house. No detail was overlooked.

We loved all of the wildlife and especially the hikes. One of my favorites was the trip to the animal santuary and all of the dolphins we saw along the way.

We will definitely go back to Bosque as often as we can. Thanks to all of you for making it so memorable for our family.

“A naturally beautiful paradise”

Bosque del Cabo

5 of 5 stars
Vero Beach, FL
Jul 29, 2008

I was traveling through Costa Rica and Panama alone for one month, taking in all the surfing/hiking/and other activities that I could do. Bosque del Cabo was by far the best, most beautiful and comfortable all around place that I stayed in. Starting with the friendly staff, all the way down to the natural surroundings of the Osa peninsula, Bosque del Cabo should be a nature lovers 5 star resort. Three delicious meals a day are provided by the wonderful restaurant staff. Maurine makes GREAT coconut rice. Each cabina is a short walk from the reception lodge, making each one a private haven in the beautiful rainforest. As you walk back to your cabina, you see bright flourescent blue butterflies and hear the cries of all four monkies or are often gretted on the path by a pizote. Then when you finally arrive to your cabina, each moderately and comfortably built cabin is equipped with a gorgeous and comfortable bed, protected by a mosquito net but with amazing views. The warm outside show is by far the BEST part! Where you can look up into the stars as you're cleaning off from the days' activities. Some of which may include a horseback ride along the beach, a hike around the property alone can be activity enough for one day, a walk on the beaches down below, or repelling down a waterfall guided by some of the locals.
The owners, Kim and Phil, are some of the most accomodating friendly people you will meet. With some of the most long-standing knowledge of the area, they, along with their staff of friendly locals, will make your stay in Costa Rica a long lasting memory.

“For True Wildlife Lovers - Casitas Overllooking The Pacific”

Bosque del Cabo

Jul 27, 2008

As true wildlife lovers, we found great joy in seeing Capucin, Howler and Spider monkeys literally swinging from the trees outside our casita as well as seeing scarlet macaws and amazonian parrots flying overhead and coatis running across the immense gardens. There are also agoutis and of course lizards and at night, by the pond, one can see snakes and all kinds of frogs, toads and yes, some pretty big spiders. . But this is a place of great beauty where the wonders of nature really don't frighten as much as they do amaze. And everyone there who was a guest seemed equally enthralled with the nature around them - after all, i think this is why one goes to Bosque del Cabo. This is not a place to go if you are not fascinated with the natural world and want to just lounge by a pool. The casitas have tall a-framed thatched roofs and they are partly open to the sky. Yes, i did say open and surprisingly, bugs & rain don't seem to get in - we found this to be quite beautiful but this could take a little bit of getting used to for the squeamish. Also, with all the trails and nature tours to be had on the property, we were so tired by 8:30 p.m. we didn't have the energy to worry about the open roofs if we wanted to and we were not bitten by anything in the rooms over our 5 nights there, staying in 2 different casitas ( we were moved from one to another at their request ). There are also bats flying around the balconies in the evening which we were happy about as they can eat hundreds of mosquitoes per night ( - hey, maybe that's why we never even saw any mosquitoes near our casita ) ! The tours led by Philip are , as stated in other reviews, a must. The primary forest tour is 4 hours and is jam packed with detailed information regarding the amazing variety of trees and plants and the ways in which they defend themselves against predators and other plants all aiming for the same precious sunlight. We also very heartily recommend A) the nature sanctuary tour ( 1/2 hour car to boat, 1/2 hour boat - then tour & return - around $160 for 3 I think it was ) where you can engage with monkeys one on one who are being reintroduced to the wild by some very dedicated caretakers B ) waterfall rappelling which visits 4 waterfalls; the last one being about 75' high C) surfing down at pan dulce beach ( renting board is $40. - hotel brings you there ( 15 min. drive ) & back and gives you a packed lunch on request. There are also a lot of trails as the property is pretty substantial - around 200 or more hectares, I think. The staff is quite laid back and you'll find that you have to ask them about what there is to do rather than the other way around. Views from the casita balconies are stunning and their hammocks are a great place to nap! Also as mentioned in other reviews - showers/tubs are in a walled & tiled area outside of each casita and this also takes a few minutes to get used to but no, no one can see you! Both of our casitas had king beds downstairs w/ loft beds up that had small open balconies - I would not recommend these loft beds for very little children . The casitas are quite bare but charming. Note - there are some casas to stay in as well but these are a lonnnnng walk from the main part of the lodge and other casitas and I don't think I would want to stay that far away Restaurant staff is very sweet and the food is between average and very good. Five nights for 3, all meals & tours around $2800 not including tips which were another few hundred ( waiters, maids, guides, bartenders ) An unforgettable place to let you & your children see the dwindling natural world up close & very personal.

“we found paradise”

If you want a holiday which will exceed all your expectations then Bosque del Cabo on the Osa Peninsula is the place to go.

On arriving at Bosque we were met by friendly staff who greeted us with an ice cold drink before showing us to our cabina.

The cabina was clean with an outside shower, which I loved, and a hammock on the porch, where we could relax with a good book while listening to the monkeys calling to each other in the distance.

Bosque del Cabo is a small friendly privately owned property set in over 200 acres of jungle with amazing walks and guided tours.

One of our favorite trips was the hike we took along the Pacific Trail to the beach. We made our way passed tidal pools to the waterfall not meeting a soul on our way. The photos we took were fantastic, it was such a beautiful place. The photos we took now take pride of place in our home.

We were sorry to leave Bosque but hope to visit again as this holiday destination proved to be the perfect choice, providing us with good customer service, dramatic views, wildlife on the doorstep and relaxation. What more could you ask for?
