I stayed at Alvear Palace with my wife in September for 5 days. We had a wonderful visit.
The hotel was beautiful and the staff extremetly helpful. We had a very large room with a shower and a spa tub. We were on a low floor but heard little noise. The room was very comfotable and luxurious. I wasn't sure what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised.
We ate breakfast at the hotel every day and they had a wonderful breakfast buffett. We ate lunch at the hotel once (the lunch buffett) and it was very elaborate and good.
We had the concierge at the hotel make all of our dinner reservations. We researched most of the restaurants we ate dinner at but the concierge was not shy in telling us if he liked our choices when we asked his opinions. All of our meals were fabulous.
Unfortunately the night we ate at the fancy restaraunt in the hotel, my wife got sick (before the meal) and I ended up eating alone. The meal was excellent, but it would have been much more enjoyable with my wife!
That night when our floor butler realized my wife was sick, he jumped into action. He brought us gatorade and what ever else we needed. The service was outstanding.
The hotel is in a great location and we did lots of walking and shopping. Normally we would not pick such a large and old grand hotel, but we were very glad we ended up at Alvear Palace. If we make it back to Buenos Aires, and we hope to soon, we will defintely stay there again.
