“Will not be back”

Wilton Hotel

2 of 5 stars
Asheville, NC
Apr 29, 2008

We stayed here one night while traveling from Uruguay to Tandil & did not have a pleasant experience. First of all, we had looked up rates on the internet but did not have a chance to book through a website. We asked about the internet rates and were told they could not honor that rate so we had to pay around $130 USD. You can get WAY more in BA for $130 USD a night. The rooms are very old and out dated. And, when our taxi dropped us off, we were out of pesos and only had $100 US bill, so, we ran into the hotel lobby, where they exchanged for pesos, only to realize the next day after check out that the conciere had given us a fake $100 peso. On a positive note, we did have a nice large bathroom that appeared to be very clean. But, after staying in 5 hotels through our stay in Argentina, there are many nicer hotels that cost the same or less.

“Terrible hotel/not a 4 star”

Terrible experience. It is a 1 star hotel. Ugly rooms, bathrooms, ugly breakfast. Terrible service. You can get for the same price a better hotel. We stayed only one night and we moved for the same price to a 5 star hotel. If you travel a lot like us and know about hotels do not stay in this one.

“Very pleasant stay!”

We stayed at Wilton for 2 weeks. We used this hotel as our base when visiting Buenos Aires and the surrounding area. We also left the hotel for 2 nights to visit the Iguazu falls in the Missiones province, but kept most of our luggage there. This was fine with the hotel, and they kept the keycard for us while we were away.

The location is great, we felt completely safe in the Recoleta/Barrio Norte neighbourhood. There's always people around, so it's never unpleasant to go out. People of Buenos Aires generally go out to dinner very late, around 10 pm and later.

There's a really good restaurant just around the corner called Cumanà. Cheap and good food, but be sure to get there before 8 pm or you'll have to wait in line for a table. It's a pretty "young" place, with crowds coming in to drink beer, eat, talk and laugh.

The staff of Wilton were always friendly and helpful. Not everyone speaks English. Silvia speaks great English and is very nice. There are 2 Internet PCs in the lobby, but they are almost always busy. Maybe they should get one or two more. The breakfast room is large and pleasant with a TV showing news and weather broadcasts. The buffet is absolutely terrific: Pastries, fruit, cereals, yoghurts, white and wholewheat bread (two toasters for the guests to use), eggs, different spreads, coffee, tea, milk and two kinds of juice. All very fresh and tempting.

The room was a comfy place to come back to after a long day out in BA. Nice comfy bed, great bathroom, TV with loads of channels, many in English. Terrible view out of the window, but we didn't care. Easy-to-use AC on the wall. We preferred the "Low Cool" setting as the "High Cool" actually felt way too cold and left us shivering under the sheet.

“Excellent Service and Location!”

Wilton Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Southlake, Texas
Mar 24, 2008

We chose the Wilton for value and location. The rooms are on the small side which was expected and the furniture is a little dated but very clean. Check in was very quick and efficient and we were pleasantly surprised when the room was available at 10:00 a.m. after an all-night flight. We freshened up in the room before hitting the town. When we returned to the hotel we decided to upgrade to a suite to have more space since our son was traveling with us. No problem at all and the housekeeper came to set up the extra bed within 2 minutes of our arrival in the new room. The 2 room suite was spacious with a sofa, chairs, coffee table and TV in one room and a Queen bed and another TV in the other. Everything appeared new. It had wood laminate floors and the bathroom had 2 sinks which is always easier with 3 people. Beds were comfy, too.

But the best asset this hotel has is their helpful and friendly employees who greeted us every time we walked past the front desk. They were also able to answer any questions we had. Carlos and Sylvia were lovely as was Pedro and the other Doorman. The location on Av. Callao (near Santa Fe) in Recoleta was perfect--a safe neighborhood feel. There are many restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Also, an ATM is across the street and a laundromat is right around the corner. Be sure to eat at Clasica y Moderna which is 3 blocks from the Wilton. The food and live entertainment were great.

The 2 free computers in the lobby were a big plus for our teenager to keep in contact with friends at home! Breakfast was plentiful with fresh fruits, cereal, breads, yogurt, etc.

The Wilton received 5 stars for service and location and we would definitely stay there again! We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would recommend it for anyone who is budget minded but you will not be cut short on service here!

The Wilton is approx 10 - 15 mins walk to Recoletta village with its great restaurants bars and niteclubs + the cemetary and park. It is also two blocks from the metro. Beds are large room clean, friendly staff who booked a tango show for us.2 free internet PC's are handy but slow. Breakfast is nice. Really liked this hotel very friendly staff would stay here again.
