“Great Style in central BA”

Esplendor de Buenos Aires

Feb 16, 2008

Just returned from a trip to Argentina. We booked the Esplendor Hotel via Late Rooms for 2 sets of 2 nights.

Hotel is very stylish, with large en-suite rooms some with balconies looking out over the BA street scene, and fabulous art on the walls of the atrium (Portrait of Che Guevara in bullets is special, as is the portrait of Evita Peron in bread! No really they work!!)

Young trendy staff very friendly and helpful arranging transport and entertainment. Excellent breakfast.

Highly recommended.

“Esplendor is splendid”

Esplendor de Buenos Aires

The bi-lingual staff was very helpful and the 2 rooms that we stayed in were superbly furnished and appointed in modern decor. While the rates may seem high for BA, the rooms are well worth the rates.

We also ate in the restaurant and the food was tasty and a good value. The hotel is also very well-located between Puerto Madero and Ava. 9 Julio. The only drawback is the traffic in the area is mind-boggling.

“Form over function”

Esplendor de Buenos Aires

Stayed at the Esplendor for our first two nights in Buenos Aires, before heading to Iguazu. The location of the hotel is excellent, right next to Calle Florida and the Galerias Pacifico shopping mall. There was some renovation going on in the area, because there was a big container with construction debris right in front of the entrance to the hotel.
This is a hip boutique hotel, with impressively tall ceilings and cool artwork (portrait of Evita made entirely of bread slices etc.). As often happens with boutique hotels, though, form definitely takes precedence over function, as well as service. Upon arrival in the evening, we were shown to a double room, even though I had reserved the room directly with the hotel and had a confirmation for a "matrimonial" bed; since they were full, I could not change to the room requested and received no gesture of apology.
I found the room to be relatively small, but decorated in good taste (other than the odd lamps that look too home-made), but the bathroom area left a lot to be desired. A tiny sink is outside the bathroom, and the water splashes out of the square-shaped basin; the light above the sink is so far up that you can barely see your face in the mirror; the space around the sink is too small to lay out any toiletries. The shower again looks sleek, but has only a partial glass wall, so spilling is common; the faucet was so flimsily fixed into the wall that on my second shower I accidentally unscrewed it, with water flowing all over. And the towels on the first day were extremely worn and should have been taken out of use months ago.
Another inconvenience to be mindful of: I asked for some help to make a reservation for a tango show; the front desk directed me to a phone number for their reservation unit, which turned out is CLOSED on Sunday and has limited ours on other days of the week.
For $200 a night, I did not think this was great value.

“wonderful stay”

Esplendor de Buenos Aires

We stayed at Esplendor in september on our way to a trip to Mendoza. This was the perfect hotel for us. The location was wonderful and we really loved the decor. We stayed for a couple nights before and after mendoza. On our last two nights we were upgraded to the Presidential suite. This suite was wonderful, full of french doors overlooking the city. Loved the artwork. Concierge was very helpful with restaurant resevations, directions and tips. We would recommend this to anyone and definitely stay again if we are lucky enough to go back to BA.

“Great small boutique hotel in the middle of BA”

Esplendor de Buenos Aires

This boutique style hotel suits the purpose for a stay in downtown Buenos Airies. The decor is resolutely modern and minimalistic with a few quirks - the restaurant is more in keeping with the traditional exterior but with plastic chairs. The staff are uniformly helpful and have a good command of english. The bedrooms are comfortable - be aware that some bedrooms face out on to the busy and noisy road; ask for a room overlooking the (not too interesting) inner courtyard if like me you are a light sleeper. Food is great and varied.

The position of the hotel can't be faulted as it forms one corner of the block that the Galarias Pacificas shopping mall occupies. The Galarias has a good food court as well for a quick bite during the day if you wanted something instant. The hotel is convenient to buses and taxis are plentiful
