In advance of our April 29 visit, the owner of the estancia, Ana Pena invested an amazing amount of time, patience and effort to accomodate my family's rather complex special dietary needs.
Truthfully, we expected her to bow out of the planning process as it became quite detailed and demanding, but she chose to stay the course!!!! Suffice to say, we were grateful that she was able to integrate our 'special' meal into the overall ranch experience.
And with the quiet assistance of one of her friends, Alberto, who was quite familiar with our dietary situation, the execution was as smooth as the planning. Kudos as well to Veronica for the actual food preparation.
Our guide for the day was named Bonnie, ably assisted by the gaucho Don Juan. While she was new to the ranch, Bonnie exuded the confidence and easygoing and engaging manner of someone who had been there many years. She definitely transcended the normal and expected role of guide, to be our friend for the day. We appreciated her flexibility in slowly ramping up my kids' requests to go faster, as the day progressed.
Our overall experience is similar to other reviews- lowkey, simple, authentic, friendly. There is no hype, no frills, no upselling at this ranch, which we found quite refreshing.
Expect to be startled 12 hours after your ride, that you have lower back muscles that you had no idea ever existed before your ride at Los Do Hermaos!!!
