My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on a recent 6 day visit to BA. We had stayed our first 3 nights at the Park Hyatt Palace Duhau and were blown away with the rooms, the grounds and the service there. But they could not accomodate us for the remaining nights, we selected the Gurda based on other reviews here on Tripadvisor. When we arrived at the Gurda, you can imagine how apprehensive we were when we first lay eyes on the property! Yet, we were completely wrong! While we really enjoyed the Park Hyatt and the service there, we really enjoyed the San Telmo area. It felt more like Buenos Aires.
The hotel is small - 7 rooms. We had the Tango Room. We arrived at 11AM fully expecting to not be able to check in. However, the front desk clerk announced us by name and said he was expecting us and that our room was ready!
Upon entering the room, there were rose petals laid out on the bed duvet and fresh-cut flowers on the dresser. The room was large and airy with a jacuzzi tub in the main bedroom area and a shower area separate. The room was adorned with artwork from a local artist (available for sale) and candles to create some ambiance with the jacuzzi tub! Overall, very clean and comfortable.
There was a little outdoor semi-enclosed common area outside of our room which could be used for smoking and conversing with friends etc. On several occasions our sleep was interrupted by people smoking and drinking in these areas late into the evening and the noise filtered into our room.
Breakfast was included and prepared to order. You make your selection from a variety of menu options presented to you on a placard. Our server, who spoke very little English (and whom we suspected had very little experience) was enthusiastic and very eager to please! Overall, not bad, but not the best option if you want to get out early in the morning, and quickly! We did not take advantage of the on-site bar or restaurant, but the ambiance is very nice and the menu looked good.
The front desk clerks were equally enthusiastic and very nice and knowledgeable. There is free wifi internet access but you must ask for the code to their secure access point. Once we figured this out, we were fine. On the day of our departure we had a late night flight and asked if we could store our luggage at the hotel. The clerk at the front desk not only offered to let us keep the room, but we could keep it as long as we needed and were free to come and go throughout the day as they did not have the room rented for that evening. The housekeeper came in and straightened up the room and left us with fresh towels! Nice touch.
We enjoyed our trip to BA and will definitely be back and would definitely consider another stay at the Gurda.
