“a Rare B&B”

Secret Garden Iguazu B&B

Aug 9, 2008

Just returned from Argentina and spent 3 nights at the Secret Garden. It is indeed as wonderful as everyone has said. John, the owner, fixes drinks each evening at 7 PM for all guest along with a light appetizer. It is unusual in this day for an owner to spend as much time as John does talking with his guests. He is honestly interested, asks probing questions and gives his perspective. Secret Garden is in ideal location, a block from the main street and bus stop to the Falls (5 pesos per person). Bus is easy to take. Only a 15 minute walk to the more central part of town. If you ask John about anything, he is a wonderful resource.

“Best hotel in Iguazu”

Secret Garden Iguazu B&B

Aug 5, 2008

The owner John organised our transfer from the airport and gave us a great tour of Puerto Iguazu on the way to the B&B. WIth only 3 rooms you really get a personal touch. Having breakfast in the garden was lovely and the evening optional cocktails and bruchetta was a nice way to relax after a busy day at the waterfalls, plus a great way to meet other guests. Rooms are clean, simple and charming. The power shower was great! We stayed at the Sheraton for our last night because John was already booked up and I can honestly say we by far preferred the secret garden for its personal touches and relaxing atmosphere.

“OK, but could be better”

My overall impression was jaded by all the positive reviews I read, so perhaps my expectations were a bit higher than they should have been. When the driver pulled up to the front of the place, both my buddy and I had the same reaction...surely this can't be the place. The curb appeal is to be generous, minimal at best. The front yard was all torn up and had smoldering tree stumps burning. The backyard was also somewhat torn up. I guess renovations were in progress. The rooms were spartan, but clean. Breakfast was pretty disappointing. Ok, the guy makes his own jams..but cold, hard toast and a cup of coffee was a bit of a disappointment. I was waiting for more, but it never came. This area of the Secret Garden definitely needs some upgrading. It is billed as a B&B after all! To be fair, the owner John is a very nice guy and very personable. He arranged a great driver which I would highly recommend..Overall it was a good value but could be improved with a modest but decent breakfast. I recommend the Secret Garden, but don't expect Shangri La as some of the other postings seem to imply. As a side note--Don't go to Paraguay, it's dangerous and expensive in the only duty free shop.

A very nice place located really close to the town of Puerto Iguasu. The owner and staff were really nice and helpful and the B&B was clean and very cute. We had a great time here and would definitely recommend staying here.

“Gracious, Low-Key, Clean & Comfortable Secret Garden”

Secret Garden Iguazu B&B

Iguazu, as the Secret Garden's owner John, will tell you, 'is a border town with nothing much in it' - but that does not stop him from taking you on an introductory spin through the town, all the while pointing out where to eat (and what to avoid), where to catch the bus to the Falls, and the inadvisability of swimming across the river to Brazil! John and his staff of 3 take a personal interest in their guests and do so with genuine kindness and professionalism. His small, tidy B&B was an oasis to come back to at the end of a long day of trekking around the park and, as many have mentioned previously, the fantastic fresh drinks and tapas served nightly on the terrace were a delightful bonus and a great way to meet and relate to fellow travelers. John's innate sense of hospitality (for example, he makes his own jams - at the time we sampled 4 different kinds, each one tastier than the last) made for a perfect 2 days in Iguazu. I can't recommend the Secret Garden enough! Thank You John!
