“Amazing resort and staff!”

JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa Phoenix

This resort is amazing. It is huge, new, clean and pretty lavish. Every person on staff was very friendly and helpful. My room was kept clean for me not only every morning but also for turn down service. I had a room overlooking the front of the hotel - very nice view of the palm trees out front and the mountains in the distance. The sunsets were beautiful from the balcony. The pool area is immense! Something for everyone from a lazy river to small pools to large pool to a 15 person hot tub. Everywhere was running, bubbling, gurgling water. Very beautiful and relaxing. I fell asleep in my lounge chair after an hour of swimming! I had the pleasure of eating at both Roy's and Blue Sage restaurants on the property. Definitely not cheap but very delicious. We also ate at Splash, a little cafe style place right in the middle of the pools offering just burgers, sandwiches, etc. I paid about $11 for an Angus burger and fries but it beat leaving the pools in the middle of the day. I never did find two other restaurants... this place is huge! You can also take a free shuttle to the nearby strip malls (very nice) to do some shopping and eating. I hated to leave and hope I can make it back again as I never made it to the mountains, which I really wanted to do. But it was just so hard to leave the pools!

“Great Service, Okay Resort”

JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa Phoenix

3 of 5 stars

My husband and I stayed at this resort for 3 nights, Oct 8-10. The staff at this place were really great. Very kind and attentive and willing to do whatever it took to make our stay enjoyable. There was a woman who was checking in when we were checking in and it turned out she was at the wrong JW in Phoenix, so the front desk attendant arranged to have one of the resort's town cars take her to the correct hotel so she didn't have to pay for yet another taxi. That's what I call great service!

We picked this hotel for three reasons: 1 - lazy river/pool complex; 2 - spa (for me); 3 - golf (for hubby). If we were attending a conference, I might have given this resort a higher rating, but as a leisure hotel, it is only okay (especially given the high price).

1. The lazy river/pool was great, but a little on the cool side and always dirty with bugs and debris swirling right around the loop with you. Pool bar/cafe food was what I've come to expect from pool bar food - expensive and mediocre.

2. The spa environment was wonderful. The facilities were beautiful, peaceful and serene and the staff was okay. The massage I received was probably the worst I've ever had, and at $150 for 50 minutes, I was hugely disappointed.

3. I'm not a golfer, but my husband was pretty disappointed with the course he played (there are two and one was closed - unfortnately I can't remember which one he played). I guess it's the wrong time of year for golf in PHX, but still, for the price he expected a lot better.

Our room was nice; bedding was heavenly. Shower pressure was terrible and so I called the front desk. Within an hour, maintenance had come, removed the old shower head, located and installed a new one and the pressure was much better. There was a cockroach in our room the first morning, but it was clearly on its last leg and was the only bug of any kind we encountered in our ground floor room.

We didn't eat any meals at the resort (except lunch at pool bar). There is a great mall right across the street with tons of restaurants.

“Love the JW Marriott”

My husband and I just love this property. The room is large, bright and just extremely comfortable with a couch to sit on and patio to see the surrounding area. The bathroom is great with a bath and shower and the service is wonderful. They have several pools including a lazy river . While staying at the hotel I received a call that my dog was in the hospital causing us to check out at 6 PM on a Saturday to return to Southern California. I expected to pay the full rate for the day and the hotel gave me a day rate of $80. I will never stay anywhere else on my stays to Phoenix in the future. Congratulations JW Marriott, a hotel that really does care about their guests.

“Relaxing, Rejuvenating and Refreshing”

JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa Phoenix

I always stay at Marriott's because of their consistency. I am rarely disappointed and this time was no acception. We stayed for three days but our main intention was to visit the Grand Canyon for a day. When I got to the hotel I could have easily forgotten about the Grand Canyon but my husband had his heart set on it. The drive was under 4 hours and both scenic as well as pleasant. However, I wouldn't do it again.

Back to the hotel. The lazy river was my favorite. The grounds are beautiful and the staff courteous. We ate at the hotel only once at the Blue Sage and it was for breakfast. No big deal seeing as it's hard to screw that up. We ate and shopped in Scottsdale mostly. I barely had time to lounge at the pool but we're going back because we bought three nights at the timeshare across the street although we would prefer to stay at the hotel again.

They do not have a conceirge but they did upgrade me to a pool view. The hotel is in a good location with a shopping plaza, a grocery store, pharmacy and eateries across the street. I would like to visit the JW in Scottsdale since they have all private villas. I would recommend this hotel for families although there weren't many when we stayed.

“Great Fun!”

JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa Phoenix

Oct 13, 2006
9/9 found this review helpful

This was much nicer than I expected! We love the Phoenix area and have enjoyed stays at a lot of fine properties in the area. The property was very lovely, and the lazy river was great fun, even without the children. The pool area is so large and there are so many chairs I can't imagine not being able to find seats outside.

The staff was very good. Breakfast in the restaurant was always pleasant and dinner at Roy's was great. Always a cold drink available in the main lobby.

The rooms were more standard hotel styling than someplace like the Fairmont, but that said they were very comfortable, clean and well serviced.

Self parking was easy, convenient and complementary. The power walk the fitness center sceduled in the mornings was not much though. Ask the concierge for a map of the local area and go on your own. Property is very large. You will do some walking. No noise heard between rooms, comfortable bedding.
