My husband and I live in the area and wanted to get away for the weekend, relax by the pool and enjoy what a resort has to offer. After much searching and review reading we chose the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort. We booked for a 3 day weekend. They were having a summer special $99.95 per night. We arrive on Friday about 5pm to check in. The front desk lady was nice and friendly but the lobby was over run by children jumping all over the furniture and a big crowd of teens. I gave the desk clerk my credit card. She said oops your card isn't being accepted. Well the cost of my 3 night stay was only supposed to be $333.00 and my credit card had plenty of credit on it. I gave her my debit card and we were registered and on our way. Later I checked my debit card online banking and discovered they put a hold on my debit card for $1200. I find this highly ridiculous. I understand and expect a hotel to put a hold on your card to cover incidentals, however my room was $99 a night for 3 nights, I don't see how a deposit 4 items the amount of the cost of the room was justified. We requested a king size bed. It was just me and the hubby. When we finally found a parking space, walked down a steep incline and found the building our room was in we opened the door to find they gave us a room with two full size beds in it. That was disapointing. Also within about 20 mins of turning the AC on there was a loud annoying clunking noise coming from the sink. We assumed it was some sort of water leak from the AC draning into sink pipe. It was so loud and annoying. We were already starting to get a little frustrated. We went back to the lobby and it was even more crowded than before with children, teenagers, and two weddings and their guests. We decided to walk around the property and take a look then go get something to eat and talk to the desk when we came back. Well.. this property is located on a mountain and the suites are built all up and down the mountain side. You can not walk anywhere without climbing up a mountain path. Unless you are 20 years old and in fantastic shape it's somewhat difficult to walk around the property. Especially in the dead of summer here it's 110-115 degrees. There is also little to no parking. Every parking space next to their nice waterpark, adult pool, family pool etc was filled up. The entire parking lot was filled to capacity so unless you want to wait to be crowded into an over stuffed van that drives you around the property to take you to the different areas of the resort you have to walk them which like i mentioned before is very difficult with all of the steep hilly inclines. So our nice walk around the property ended me being tired, huffing and puffing, and sweaty. I'm obviously not in tip top shape but that was just a little ridiculous. Our room was right next to a nice looking pool overlooking a the area below but we couldn't really get to it. The path to the pool from our room was up a very very steep road. So steep that it was just too much trouble to try to walk to the pool and since the parking is no existent it made no sense to drive to the pool. We went off property to eat and since the hotel is on a mountain we had to drive awhile to find any decent places to eat that were not in the run down part of phoenix. When we came back we had decided to checkout and find another place to stay the weekend. We went back to the hotel and called the front desk and told them we would like to check out early. They did offer to find us a new room but we didn't think we would enjoy ourselves. They told us they usually require 24 hour notice to cancel but they were nice enough to let us checkout the next day with no other charges ( i hope, as of now they have only billed us for the one night stay plus $12 for the use of the internet) So we are thirsty so my hubby said he's going to find a coke machine and get some ice. He comes back about 30mins later empty handed. We have a vending area right by our door but there is no coke machine. He hikes all around this hilly property to 2 different coke machines neither of which are working. He hikes from the hills to the gift shop in the lobby but it has now closed. There is nowhere else to buy a coke except order room service or drink from the mini bar. I'd rather not pay $3 for a can of coke but we were so thirsty we ended up drinking to cans of soda from the mini bar. I'm convinced the have non working coke machines to MAKE you buy the overpriced mini bar drinks. We could barely sleep all night with being thirsty all night ( you can't drink phoenix water unless you want to get sick) the loud clunking noise coming from the ac, the small full size bed for two people and the thought of our weekend ruined. We checked out first thing the next morning and went to the The Buttes Marriott resort in Tempe and that was the BEST decision we ever mad. I will give a review of that fantastic place next. The Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort is a hell hole that I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to stay at. I don't see how they have or keep any of their paying customers.
