I have stayed at this property many times. Previously I have rated it either a 4 or 5. Something happened between my last stay in December and my January stay or so it would seem.
When I left the hotel in December I was told that Marriott was taking over the computer/business service room and there would be no need to bring my laptop in January, as the rates would be very low. When I arrive in January I found the computer rate in the business room to be $5.95 log on fee, $1 a minute, and a $ per printed page of paper. The computers were VERY slow. Then the commode in the room stopped up for no reason each day. Then I went to breakfast at the concierge room on the 15th floor---out of most everything. Two workers were in the kitchen talking. I waited 20 minutes for someone to service and replinish the food area, but finally gave up. The kitchen helps conversation never stopped. Decided my wife and I would go down to the bar for a glass of wine. Cheapest Cab Sav was $15 a glass. Now I am not cheap, I am used to Manhattan prices; however, this seemed to be a bit much for their cheapest Cab Sav.
When I was leaving I was sent to the "free boarding pass" computer in the concierge room. Well, it kept timing me out with a notice that I need to swipe my credit card as I own a fee for logging on to the computer. I finally had to go to the reservation desk and have then get my boarding pass for me as the concierge was already busy with others. By this time I was at the tail end of the B group for boarding. I usually get my pass in the first of the A section so I don't have a luggage storage problem.
In short, this didn't seem to be the same hotel that I had left in December, or that I had stayed at over the years. Best I can do is rate it average, and that would be giving the hotel the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe I just hit the perfect storm; otherwise, the wheels are off the track at this property.
Sad but true.
