I am always amazed at the high scores routinely given to average courses...makes me wonder what type of courses these people typically play at home to consider every course that they play while on vacation a five-star golf club...anyway...Old South reminded me of about 90% of the courses that you will play in Myrtle Beach. It was tricked up, contrived, didn't flow naturally with the lay of the land and sported about 18 pretty uninteresting greens. The holes that had a severe dogleg requiring exacting shots were terrible. They were impossible for the wife to reach in two reinforcing the fact, along with the forced carries on just about every other hole, that it wasn't woman-friendly. The staff was courteous, the pace of play was just over three and a half hours, course condition was good for January, and the price at $60 wasn't outrageous. Not a must play but will suffice if unable to get a round on one of the island courses. All in all an average experience.
