I always forget to write a review once I am home, so here I am on our last night here, hoping to give you a very acurate picture.
First of all, you need to know that Bermuda is GORGEOUS. The beaches on the south shore have interesting rock formations, most have some snorkeling, the softest sand (not really pink, just has tiny pink particles here and there.) The turquiose water is the clearest that we have seen any where. We've traveled quite a bit, and it would be hard to find nicer. You almost feel like you are in a giant clean swimming pool! It is truly breath taking.
The restaurants are pricey but good, the service is far superior to any where we've travelled in the carribean. The people here are very polite and talkative. There is much to see on the island, and we recommend taking the ferry to Hamilton for shopping and dining, and St. George for sight seeing. We LOVED St. George. Don't miss Tobacco Bay if you like to snorkel.
BIG WARNING...many vacationers zip around on mopeds because there are no car rentals for tourists. We heard several horror stories from locals about fatalities. Bermudians drive on the left, and tourists get confused frequently. The roads are very narrow and whindy. It looks fun but it won't be if you crash.
Now, the apartment. My first impression actually was not positive, because it smelled like urine and mold. But I sprayed lysol and let the owner know, and from there on there was little to no smell. The pictures on the website make it look new and it is not. But it is a comfortable, quiet, very private, clean and convenient place to stay and you cannot beat the price. The small balcony has a little view of the water, but right out your door the ocean is all around you. Beaches are a 15 minute or so bus ride away, which you can catch right beyond the building. Also to the right of the apartments is the ferry. They have a little restaurant on site and the coffee is wonderful in the morning, just steps away from your door and you can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view.
The apartment has an adequate kitchen. We didn't use it because we were on the go most of the time. If you stay in a hotel you don't have the option to cook or not to cook!
My husband and I loved coming home in the evening and relaxing in the living room. The bed was okay. You will need to block the windows upstairs if you don't want to wake up with the sun.
You have to decide what you want out of a vacation before you go. Do you want to walk out of a hotel and land in the sand with a tropical drink in hand? Then this is not for you. However, it you are adventurous, private, and want a clean comfy bargain in a good spot, this is a perfect choice.
