Ok, so our stay at Yellowfin was good. The apartment was clean and even a little bigger than initially expected. Although, the living room does look a little bigger in the online pictures. The kitchen was good size, more than adequate for what we used it for. There were plenty of utensils, plates, etc. for us.
There is only one AC wall unit in the living room and a ceiling fan, so we actually bought a small fan at the dollar store (for $35) to help circulate the air into the bedroom a little better. We left it there so hopefully others will be able to use it, too. It was money well spent!!
The balcony had a decent view, but like the pictures on-line indicate, there are palm trees in the way. I do think that the Yellowfin unit has the best, perhaps only view of the water, aside from the owners unit. We didn't mind the quick walk to the bridge to see the beautiful and breath taking sunsets! One night, I believe it was on our last night, we even saw a sea turtle from the bridge! It was so magical!!
There is a spot where you can swim from the property, but it's a little dangerous. Very sharp coral so if you decide to venture out and swim off the "dock" I would strongly suggest aqua shoes. I sliced my finger pretty good and another guest cut her foot pretty badly. It is "swim at your own risk." It was a great way to cool off quickly. I think next time we'll skip that part though because while in the water I did see a rat walking on the rocks and some pretty weird, scary looking bugs near the ladder to climb up.
Now onto bugs and such... unfortunately there were a ton of ants. I had read of the prior to our trip so I went out and bought extra traps for the apt. (we kept all of food tightly wrapped and in siplock bags so there were no bugs in our food), the ants don't really seem to go for the traps, so I bought a can of Supa Swat! What great stuff!! This particular bug spray and it's sister can Supa Bug ended up coming in handy, especially on our 3rd or 4th night when we were sitting watching the weather on the tv and just about to take a bite of some delicious chocolate rum cake. My husband spotted a cockroach scurry our from under the couch! YIKES! I wasn't totally surprised being that we are so close to the water in a tropical location, but we don't have bugs like that where we live! This is when the Supa Swat came in handy. It took care of the problem very quickly. We nervously checked under the couch for more visitors and didn't see any. We still don't even know where they came from. That was the last one we saw actually alive. We went around the house and sprayed under everything... in the morning the was another dead one in the kitchen. We saw 4 in all and only the one on the first night was alive. We got into the habit of spraying under everything right when we would return from our day at the beach so we wouldn't have anymore surprises. We also tried to keep all of our luggage zipped up and off the floor if possible.
We were a little "freaked out" by the "palm" bugs as the locals call them, but I won't say I won't stay here again. It was a great deal! I've been to luxury hotels and have seen these types of bugs in the hallways, etc. It happens... having the supa bug was a help though and at $3.66 a can, it was well worth every penny! Next time we stay here we will stock up at the store for sure!
As for the location... this place was very close to the dockyard and was in very easy walking distance to at least two decent restaurants. Gratuity is automatically added into your tab at most restaurnats, so I think that because of this your service can be spotty.
Ok, back to the location... This spot was very quiet, but I think we felt that we would maybe like to stay someplace a little more centrally located in the future. We rented mopeds from Oleander Cycles the day we arrived and had them until the day we left.
The island is very small, but on most days it was quite a haul to go from our place to a beach and back at the end of the day. It would take, with traffic and construction, upwards of an hour to get to most beaches. I would've been nice, especially one that days when we went over to the North Shore or St. George, to not have such a long ride back. You know, being at the beach and relaxing all day long is tiresome! We did manage, though. I was aware that we would be a ways out, and I didn't think it would be a problem when I booked the place. It's just something I will keep in mind when looking into our stay for next year.
The owners are wonderful, wonderful people. They have a dog, two cats, and several bunnies. I thought I was seeing things when on our first night my husband and I were enjoying a couple of cocktails on the balcony and I saw a bunny jump through the fence below! It was pretty cool! We ate at the Freeport Seafood Rest. twice for lunch while we were in Bermuda and their Bermuda Fish Chowder is the best we've ever tasted. I wish I could have some right now as a matter of fact! Their seafood platter was also plenty of food for two people.
All in all this was a very good place to stay. I'm sure sometime in the future we will return. I know this review was a bit long and I'm sure I left out some items, but If anyone has any questions, please don't hesistate to ask.
P.S. I don't have any pictures of the inside because I felt the ones online to be pretty accurate. Also, after the first couple of hours there I didn't want to take pictures with all of our stuff in the way.
