We were touring Virgina and needed a place to spend the night after visiting Montpelier - James Madison's home. We found Holladay House B & B on Trip Advisor - it was close by and highly rated. We weren't disappointed. We were greeted by Sharon, one of the owners, who is simply delightful. She even helped us with our suitcases when we arrived. We stayed in the Oak Room, a very large and comfortable room with a good sized bathroom. The place oozes with charm, creaky floors and all. The bed was very comfortable and the furnishings are lovely. Sharon was very helpful in suggesting tourist things to do in the area, including telling us about restaurants in the surrounding towns. We ended up driving to one of the nearby wineries she suggested and had a great time sampling some of the delicious varieties. We had dinner at a French restaurant Sharon recommended, it was also very good. Sharon asked us that evening what time we would like breakfast (we happened to be the only ones staying there that night) and the next morning were treated to a delicious quiche, fruit, homemade biscuits and fresh coffee. Everything was done with a smile and her infectious laugh. In the living room we found lots of magazines and several daily newspapers to peruse. She told us about the history of the home, built in 1830, and we loved the gorgeous furniture.
Sharon helped us with our suitcases once again, and gave us some suggestions for sight-seeing on our way out of town.
We would definitely stay at Holladay House again, the warm hospitality made our stay lovely and memorable.
