This is my third annual trip to the Oceana where I stayed at the Virginia Beach Hilton. Arrival to the hotel is simple right off Atlantic Blvd. I like that you can pull up and not have to use the Valet parking as there is a garage next door with free parking for guests. Check in was easy - I was using a 3 night Hilton Honor gift reward. I tried to get an upgrade to an ocean side room but was informed the hotel was 96% full. I ended up on a high floor in the middle of the hall with a city view, not even a peek at the ocean like we had had in corner rooms in the years past. The room had 2 double beds (very romantic)... for giggles Hilton had sent me an e-mail saying as a Gold member I could pre-order a number of things so I ordered a refrigerator for $10 a day, a bath robe and slippers were supposed to be complimentary - this is the third year in a row I have ordered these things and the third year they have not shown up. (I was not charged for the no-show refrigerator). The beds were great with the upscale sheets and linens. The bathroom was a shocker as the toilet had obviously not been cleaned well. In my opinion this hotel is trying to be something that Virginia Beach isn't... I didn't pay the
$299+ per night, but I did plop down 120,000 Hilton honor rewards points. I think this is even too much Thankfully a Hampton Inn has opened up a block down the ocean. I will try that next year. I wonder if the Hampton Inn will try to sell me time shares like the conceirge at Hilton did - unbelievable!!!!
One kudos I would give out is our TV was not working and the maintenance guy showed up within 5 minutes
of the call - he got it working and even hooked up my portable DVD player.
Been an interesting three years - so long Virginia Beach Hilton - at what you charge it is the little things that count.
