My wife and I stayed in Hawaii for 2 weeks at 5 different hotels. All were great,but, Luana Inn was the highlight of the trip.5 days on the Big Island was not long enough to see everything,and the Inn was so pleasant I wish I had more time to just hang around the room and the pool.
The other reviews have already covered everything yu need to know about this place, but, I liked it so much just feel like encouraging others to take a look.
And,maybe,other B&B operators could see what these people have done and spread the good word.
* I admit I didnt read all the reviews,so,sorry if I'm repeating but ,if you go here,you can buy real nice ahi steaks at the regular supermarket and grill them on the patio by the pool.
Just can't say enough good things about Luana and Hawaii in general.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Luana Inn. It is beautiful, well-maintained, and sits on a hillside over-looking the Kealakekua Bay marine sanctuary. In addition to being an incredible snorkeling location and dolphin habitat, Kealakekua Bay has an interesting history as it is where Captain Cook met his untimely end.

We loved the simple, modern style of the Inn. Our room was very clean and comfortable and the evening breeze cooled it without the aid of the air conditioner. The property is beautifully landscaped and the pool area is perfect for relaxing and taking in the stunning view of Kealakekua Bay.

The Inn's gracious hosts, Erin and Ken, are very knowledgeable about the Island and are happy to provide suggestions for day trips, restaurants and activities. They're also not shy about telling you what to avoid, which can be really helpful when you're trying to squeeze a lot into a short vacation.

Their tips are usually delivered during breakfast, which is served in the large dining room facing the Bay. Both Ken and Erin are fabulous chefs, and daily they served up fresh baked bread or pastries, local fruit, some sort of savory egg entree and, of course, fabulous Kona coffee. They use organic ingredients whenever they can.

Since the Inn faces west, the views can be spectacular, especially at sunset. The Luana has several rooms in the main house and two, somewhat larger suites in a separate building. All are well-appointed.

For those who can't bear to unplug, there's also wireless Internet access on the property.

We can't say enough about The Luana Inn or Erin and Ken. If you're going to Hawaii, staying with them is a great, reasonably-priced and much more personal alternative than the mega resorts in Kohala or the many lesser B&Bs across the island.

It is easy to see why The Luana Inn receives so many "Excellent " ratings. It's got the right combination of everything you're looking for in a B&B. Our large room overlooked Kealakekua Bay, with an expansive view. Possibly the best hotel bed I have ever slept on, with quality pillows to boot. Our hosts Ken and Erin gave just the right amount of privacy, yet they were always available when we needed them. Breakfasts were all home made, eggs to order, fresh baked breads and scones, fabulous island fruit and 100% Kona coffee. There is a lot to be said for this area, hiking, snorkeling, whales, dolphins, turtles, the City of Refuge, the spot Captain Cook was killed etc. etc. Remember to keep a distance from all marine life you encounter and respect the local culture. This place is special and deserves a light touch. Thanks Luana Inn, you helped make this our best Hawaii trip yet!

My wife and I stayed here for three nights, November 1 through 4, 2007. I knew from the pictures on their website, exactly what our room looked like and parked by the door to the room (Alihi Lani Suite). As soon as I got out the door, there was Erin with a friendly greeting.

She and her husband Ken were very helpful with local directions, assisting with the room details, and their breakfast cooking was outstanding. There was also an interesting mix of guests, including a travel writer couple from Europe.

We didn't really realize what a great location they had until we got there - the South Kona coast is a mixture of the landscapes of Southern California, the Mediterranean, and Hawaii, all in one spot, but quiet and away from the resort crowds and congestion.

Our suite was spotless and very comfortable. The two previous places we had stayed in Maui and Hilo were a disappointment, but the Luana Inn was just about perfect.

We now have about three feet of snow here in New Hampshire, so I'd like to get back there soon.
