“Luana Inn: Hawaiian for Wonderful~”

Luana Inn

5 of 5 stars
Bellingham, WA
Mar 19, 2008

Luana Inn was just what we expected: a beautiful location with a stunning view. We found the rooms to be simple and clean. The bed was very comfortable! And the porch and view was oh so relaxing. Not to mention being poolside with the spectacular sunset views.

The breakfasts were great! Always varied, healthy and tasty. Erin's homemade granola (of varying types) was so delicious. And I have to give a shout out to Ken's frittata.

Ken and Erin have that wonderful innkeeper ability to be there when you need them for advice on great restaurants or favorite beaches and at other times it felt like we were the only ones at the inn--although we know they were full.

We would definitely go back.
Maholo and Aloha!

“Perfect BB experience”

All the other reviews pretty much sum up how wonderful the Luana Inn is. I've stayed at many B&Bs over the years and none have been as relaxed and enjoyable as Luana. All of the rooms are nice (we got a chance to see them all), very private and spacious. Simply and tastefully decorated. The yard overlooks the ocean, unobstructed, and you can lay by the pool and gaze at the view. But why would you when you can head to the beach, which is less than a mile away? And the best snorkeling on the island is less than a mile away as well.

If you do stay here, I recommend staying for as long as possible, as Luana makes a great home base from which to explore the island.

The owners, Ken and Erin are warm and generous and offer their suggestions on where to eat and which sights are most essential. They have a restaurant review book that is available to browse that is informative and hysterical. Be sure to talk to them about newer restaurants as our guide books didn't list many of them.

If you are a dog lover, be sure to ask if you can give the adorable Oliver a belly rub (they keep him away from guests in case of allergies).

“Wonderful Place!”

Luana Inn

5 of 5 stars
East Bay, California
Feb 25, 2008

This Inn is just lovely - it sits on the side of a hill; less than a mile from the water! We had the pleasure of staying here for 5 nights, Feb 16-21. The room was very adequate with a comfy queen bed, television/vcr, fully equipped kitchenette, large bathroom, air conditioning, and large windows/sliding glass doors that overlooked the pool/spa area and view of the Ocean.

The housekeeping was immaculate. One of the cleanest B&B's we've encountered! The terraces and yards were all in pristine condition.

The location; Captain Cook - was ideal for trips down to the Bay/snorkeling (2 minutes), The Place of Refuge National Park (8 minutes), and Ho'okena Beach (great for sunbathing and swimming - a short 20 minute ride away). Captain Cook is located in South Kona - about a 20 minute trip South of the Kona Airport. After leaving the Inn we drove to the Volcano National Park which is an easy 1 1/2 hour(s) drive.

Our hosts, Erin and Ken, were very gracious & cooked marvelous breakfasts each morning: fresh bread, selection of fruits, a hot egg dish/pancakes/or french toast, juice, and Kona Coffee.
Breakfast was served from 8-9.30am... the views from the dining room table are spectacular.

The common "living room" is airy and quite comfortable... they have a computer with internet access avail / free of charge, as well as books to read, and an extensive DVD Library (note: a small charge to rent the movies).

Without hesitation, I would reserve the Luana again.

Comfortable, gorgeous views, and very hospitable hosts!

Thank you Luana Inn!

My wife and I stayed in Hawaii for 2 weeks at 5 different hotels. All were great, but, Luana Inn was the highlight of the trip.5 days on the Big Island was not long enough to see everything, and the Inn was so pleasant I wish I had more time to just hang around the room and the pool.
The other reviews have already covered everything yu need to know about this place, but, I liked it so much just feel like encouraging others to take a look.
And,maybe, other B&B operators could see what these people have done and spread the good word.
* I admit I didnt read all the reviews,so,sorry if I'm repeating but ,if you go here, you can buy real nice ahi steaks at the regular supermarket and grill them on the patio by the pool.
Just can't say enough good things about Luana and Hawaii in general.
email me if you want some more details about the Inn or Hawaii

“Beautiful inn with excellent hosts!”

Luana Inn

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Luana Inn. It is beautiful, well-maintained, and sits on a hillside over-looking the Kealakekua Bay marine sanctuary. In addition to being an incredible snorkeling location and dolphin habitat, Kealakekua Bay has an interesting history as it is where Captain Cook met his untimely end.

We loved the simple, modern style of the Inn. Our room was very clean and comfortable and the evening breeze cooled it without the aid of the air conditioner. The property is beautifully landscaped and the pool area is perfect for relaxing and taking in the stunning view of Kealakekua Bay.

The Inn's gracious hosts, Erin and Ken, are very knowledgeable about the Island and are happy to provide suggestions for day trips, restaurants and activities. They're also not shy about telling you what to avoid, which can be really helpful when you're trying to squeeze a lot into a short vacation.

Their tips are usually delivered during breakfast, which is served in the large dining room facing the Bay. Both Ken and Erin are fabulous chefs, and daily they served up fresh baked bread or pastries, local fruit, some sort of savory egg entree and, of course, fabulous Kona coffee. They use organic ingredients whenever they can.

Since the Inn faces west, the views can be spectacular, especially at sunset. The Luana has several rooms in the main house and two, somewhat larger suites in a separate building. All are well-appointed.

For those who can't bear to unplug, there's also wireless Internet access on the property.

We can't say enough about The Luana Inn or Erin and Ken. If you're going to Hawaii, staying with them is a great, reasonably-priced and much more personal alternative than the mega resorts in Kohala or the many lesser B&Bs across the island.
