“Molokini & "Turtle Town"”

Trilogy

4 of 5 stars
central florida
Jul 27, 2008

We did the Trilogy to Molokini and "Turtle Town" this past Monday (7/21/08) and can recommend it highly. It's the service you get that makes them better than the rest. There are a lot to choose from so consider that you really are going to get what you pay for here.

The crew is outstanding and have lots and lots of experience doing this trip. You have no worries about safety or security - both are important to the crew and it permiates consistently through their delivery of a fine experience for everyone. There are no bad apples here -- all four of the guys were friendly, supportive and helpful. None had an "off-day" attitude. They were just as happy to be going as we were. Each has his own duties including boat management, scuba introduction and assistance with the gear, fitting each guest with the properly sized flippers and mask/snorkle. They have wetsuit tops to help keep you warm in all sizes, an introductory course for snorklers, a constant guardian in the water with us, and a neverending watchful eye for any difficulties. They prep you at the beginning of the day about seasickness, dangers of getting too close to coral walls, toe-stubbers on the deck and boat, etc. There is plenty of food for everyone with plenty of second and thirds for those who choose. Go for it. Everything is included except the scuba gear. They also sell underwater cameras and tee shirts and stuff but there is no hard selling of any kind at any time at all. Not at all. You pay bigger for Trilogy than the others for that very comfort.

The trip was early for a reason: Molokini gets wickedly crowded with other boats. The "noodlers" from the other boats eventually anchored and descended upon us and damn near ruined it for my wife and me, but we didn't let them get to us. Trilogy gets you out of there earlier and on to turtle town for the same reason - the others migrate over and flood the area with "noodlers". But hey, this is the most popular dive, so you better understand that first. Still a good dive, but only recommended if you really want to say you dove Molokini and turtle town. Otherwise, know that you can do some better diving on your own at Kapalua bay and Honalua bay, Kaanapali/Black rock, etc.

I did get queezy some and recommend Dramamine to those who are overly sensitive. Ginger powder pills are available to you if you need them and they do work. I didn't use anything and was fine once we got back under way and had some lunch. Another guy was affected worse and he too was better once we got under way after the dives.

The big thing you need to know is this: If you are wanting to do a catamaran snorkle trip, Trilogy is probably your best choice. The crew is entirely what make the trip and you won't get a better set anywhere. They have seen it all and can handle any problem you personally may have. Any problem. They've been there many, many times. See my pictures and trust me. I was just there.

“THE BEST Snorkel experience!”

Trilogy

Jul 8, 2008

We did the Lanai snorkel 12 years ago on our honeymoon and have done it since because we loved it so much. Don't waste $$ with any other company, Trilogy is first class and a GREAT experience!

“Wonderful Family Activity”

Trilogy

We took the Trilogy Molikini Tour in April 2008. Two adults, one 14 year old, one ten year old, one 6 year old. We motored out to Molikini where one of the staff went out on a surfboard to "spot" fish and suggest areas to snorkle towards (he was also making sure that we weren't swept away by the riptides at the edge!). When my 6 year old said she was cold..he put her on the surfboard with him and let the rest of us snorkle for 45 minutes! That's customer service. We also swam with the turtles near turtletown. We set sail and saw at least a dozen whales..one breached about 50 yards from the catamaran! The staff was talkative and informative, the food was fine, they delivered up extra ice cream sundaes to the kids. There are cheaper tours out there, I know. But this was first class...we were on the boat for 5+ hours, food all the time, beverages provided, really great crew. I highly recommend this outfit..worth every penny.

“Trilogy Lanai Sunset Sail”

Trilogy

5 of 5 stars
Newburgh, IN
Jun 28, 2008

June 16, 2008
My family booked the Lanai Sunset sail and it was our favorite activity while on Maui. The south swells had caused the waves to be big and shorebreaks to be even bigger but we braved it anyway. The crew, Captain Owen, Chuck, Oren, etc. were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The advised us of the wave action and gave everyone the opportunity to reschedule or cancel - I believe everyone went as scheduled. We had a great day. The food was great - if you go hungry on a Trilogy excursion its your own fault - homemade cinnamon rolls, wrap sandwiches, snacks, a bbq chicken dinner and icecream sundaes on the sail back. We had a large pod of spinner dolphins put on a show for us jumping and "spinning" up out of the water they were a lot of fun. The coast of Lanai is beautiful, with cool "blow holes" blowing water up every few seconds. Upon arrival at Lanai, they shuttled us to the beach for snorkeling or just lounging around, whatever we wanted to do. We chose to snorkel. We were beginners - they gave us great instruction and Chuck made sure we didn't look dorkey doing the duck walk with our fins on while entering the water. The shorebreak was quite big (due to the south swells)so we had to listen to their instructions to get in and out of the water safely - they were there every step of the way and we had a great time snorkeling. We never felt uncomfortable. The water was a little murky but that was mother nature not Trilogy. We saw a turtle and lots of colorful fish. When it was time to go back in they had someone in the water waiting to help us ashore. The van tour of Lanai was interesting to the adults - my kids would have preferred to stay at the beach though. We were then shuttled to a pavallion where Capt. Owen fixed us a great BBQ chicken dinner with a great stir-fry and peas. I am not a fan of peas - but Oren insisted that I had to have 3 on my plate or I wouldn't get dessert - just what my mother did when I was a kid - I hid them under the chicken bone - and got dessert anyway! On the way back they were able to put the sails up and sail back to Lahaina. We were serenaded by Oren on his ukelele - the evening was perfect, sailing to great music and watching the sunset. I would recommend that anyone wanting a sailing/snorkeling trip book with Trilogy - they are great!!!! We will book with them again when come back to Maui.

“Trilogy didn't sail much but was overall nice”

Trilogy

3 of 5 stars
London, United Kingdom
Jun 24, 2008

They say they sail, but the co-captain wasn't very good at sailing. The day wasn't that windy but and some point they did caught some wind but the crew wasn't prepared with the sails. Overall experience was nice. The crew was friendly and the food on deck was good (cinnamon rolls & chicken/tuna wraps). The snorkeling experience at Lanai was okay since the water was rather murky. The waves were harsh and there weren't alot of fishes to see. My husband and I decided to relax at the beach instead of doing the island tour. There was just not enough time to do both. The bbq dinner was mediocre. Although it was freshly made, it wasn't good for the price that we paid for this sailing trip. For $180+ per person, you'd think they can provide better food than bbq chicken, yakisoba, and peas. That's what we got.
