“Loved It All”

ResortQuest Maui Kaanapali Villas

5 of 5 stars
British Columbia
Jul 4, 2008

We stayed in unit 218 in the towers from May 24th to May 31st and loved it. The kitchen and bathroom were very nicely redone and we had a large lanai. The rooms above the second floor have very small lanais so we were lucky. We travelled to Maui to attend a wedding. The other wedding guests were in the Kaanapali Shores which they liked but we booked late and couldn't get into the Shores and we're glad that we couldn't. Our resort was quainter, friendlier and had a far better beach. The people staying at the Shores were coming to snorkel and swim with us. We liked the Villas so much that we're already planning our next trip for two weeks in October.

“Checked out after first night”

ResortQuest Maui Kaanapali Villas

My wife and I elected to stay here since we were able to get a great Entertainment card rate. We were a bit apprehensive due to a few negative reviews, but decided to give it a shot. because when we spoke with the reservations personnel, they told us the hotel rooms had been recently renovated. When we checked in, they assigned us to roon #182 and said it was a good room due to it's proximity to the beach and ocean. I believe they even told us it had an oceanview. When we walked in, we immediately were disappointed. It smelled funny and was anything but recently renovated. The furnishings were worn, the comforter had a burn hole in it , and the sink area was literally swarming with little ant-like bugs. Sure, it's tropical and bugs are to be expected, but this was my 5th time to the islands and I've never seen a bug problem like this. The room was large but had no view of the ocean although you could see it from the lanai. We went back to the front desk and asked for a room that was in better shape or recently renovated and they gave us a couple options in the tower, but their definition of recent renovations must mean adding a new countertop in the bathroom at most or renovations that took place at least 10 years ago. Seriously. We didn't like these other rooms so they offered to show us a studio condo. We actually liked the one we were shown but didn't want to pay an extra $40/nt. So, we decided last minute to check out other properties nearby and were able to find a great unit at Kaanapali Shores for the same price as the Villas condo and actually was completely renovated, fresh & clean not to mention bug free! The Kaanapali Villas tries hard, has a nice beach and decent pool, but will probably appeal to the budget minded traveler only.

Aloha

Guest expectations determine everything in this business. I am pleased you were able to stay at the ResortQuest Kaanapali Shores, our sister property.

I'm sorry you "checked out after first night" because you really did not allow yourself the opportunity to really see and experience the Maui Kaanapali Villas. We have just completed a $1.4 million renovation of our pools and grounds. We have just added two jet spas and bar-b-ques, We are located on a World-Class beach in the Kaanapali Resort with free trolley shuttles.

Our guests are always invited to look at other units around our 11 acre property. Every unit has a different view and a different interior. Every unit is individually owned and decorated and expresses a different owner's personality.

Rates are based on type and location. Because each unit is individually owned, that owner is owed a rate appropriate for that type and location of unit. Obviously, the rate for a hotel room is less than a studio which is 236 sq ft larger with a full kitchen.

All hotels and condominiums use the same Pest Control companies for regular pest control maintenance for Tropical critters.

Please give us a "second night" chance to share our Aloha with you.

This is a very nice resort. Amazing views everywhere. Not impressed with the customer service at all. Will never stay here again. My room was charged with damage that we did not even do. This was charged a week after our return home. When we asked for proof of damage and we were denied any such proof by the resort. Our air condition was broken almost the entire trip and was never fixed by maintenance. Instead we were given a fan. The food was great, the views were amazing. The hidden costs and bad customer service will absolutely hinder me from ever staying here again.

Aloha,

Your strong concern about being charged for something you were not responsible becomes my strong concern. Hotels take credit cards at check in so that any damages to units can be corrected. We have daily housekeeping and daily maintenance going into our rooms on a regular schedule. Before units are opened to new arrivals, the units are inspected to make sure everything is in good condition and nothing is missing or damaged. After a guest checks out of a unit, the same people go into the units to make the unit ready for the next guests. There is a definite "before" and "after" to a guest's stay. If it is determined that damage occurred in-between the "before" and the "after", then the guest who occuplied the unit at that time is charged for the damage.

I would be happy to discuss any questions you or any guest might have pertaining to charges for damages.

The owners of these condominiums have invested big dollars in Maui real estate. My job is to protect their asset when they are not on Island. Our guests are fortunate to be able to enjoy our owner's investments.

“Loved It!”

ResortQuest Maui Kaanapali Villas

Jun 18, 2008

I absolutely loved this resort. Staff were helpful and friendly, the resort was very lush and beautiful. Our room was on the 2nd floor of the Aloha Tower and the rooms on this floor had a much bigger lanai than the other floors. The bathroom was huge and our "Garden View" had lit tiki torches to look at at night. The food at the Castaway Cafe was excellent and reasonably priced. The beach was absolutely beautiful with great snorkelling a few minutes' walk down the beach. No complaints at all and would return to this resort in a second (just need the money now!).

“taking a chance”

ResortQuest Maui Kaanapali Villas

So, my husband and I decided to book here because of the kitchen since we were taking along 3 young kids. I had requested a one bedroom no loft, b/c our kids sleep early. Upon arrival, we found that the room had a huge open wall between the living room and bedroom with no partition. B/c no other one bedroom was available, we decided to upgrade to a two bedroom until a one bedroom that had a partition was open. I have to say that the two bedroom condo was quite nice (#110 in the main building) When it was time to move to our new room, I requested a late checkout so that it would be easier to move our things into the one bedroom. the guy at the front desk gave us a 2 o'clock check out but when I proceeded to ask him exactly what we were supposed to do with the card key (b/c it automatically expires at noon time checkout), he rudely asked me if I understood what he was talking about. Needless to say, so matter how many stars this lodging has, my question did not warrant the kind of response that he gave me. I was speechless, and I walked away fuming... I should have confronted him, but i decided to let it go. Now to give some credit to the Maui Kaanapali Villas, other front desk people were pleasant and helpful.

When we got to our new room, it had the partition, but it was definitely not as nice as the two bedroom. The decor was cheesy, and the bathrooms had a musty smell. On top of that, we kept finding small ants in the kitchen. We also had no internet connection, so I had to take my computer to the lobby. We were only staying two more nights, so we decided to stay in the room, as we didn't want to drag our luggage around again.

Having stayed here, would I want to return here again? It was a good deal for Kaanapali Beach, but it still wouldn't be enough for me to return. Sorry MKV, I'll be staying next door at the Westin Villas next time. At least there, I know all the rooms are predictable and consistent, and the staff wouldn't dare to treat their guests the way I was treated.

Aloha,

All units at the Maui Kaanapali Villas are individually owned and decorated. This is what partly differentiates a hotel from a condominium. No chances taken in a hotel, everything looks the same. Every guest brings their own expectations.

All hotels and condominiums fight the good fight against critters in the tropics. We all have contracts with the same pest control companies to eliminate the same ants.

No excuses for poor Staff service. The gift of Aloha is the most precious service we can offer our guests. Normally, as evidenced by most comments on Trip Advisor, our Staff exceeds guest's service expectations.

We are constantly working with our owners to up-grade their units. Guests are always given an opportunity to move to other units if they are not satisfied with the unit assigned based on availability.

As pointed out, the Maui Kaanapali Villas is a great deal on a world class beach. The Owners have just completed a $1.4 million renovation of the swimming pools and grounds adding 2 jet spas to the list of existing amenities. Very few condominium resorts have oceanfront restaurants next to their pools and spas.

We always try to meet our Guest's Expectations. Our owners continue to invest in our Guest's experience.
