Our family stayed at the Kaanapali Villas for our family re-union in July. There are four families with a total of 9 adults and 5 kids.
We choose Kaanapali Villas due to a great rate we found on Tripadvisor plus the fridge and kitchen in the rooms. We booked a total of 4 garden view studios. Two days before our vacation, I faxed a room request to the property asking for rooms that are newly renovated and closed to each other. All if our requests were met and the management upgraded all of us to Ocean View.
Checkin was great, Ms Gwen at the front desk was friendly and informative. The studios were very clean and well kept, the furnitures are good for a beach resort. The maid service was execellent and she left us extra towels for the pool/beach each day. The kitchen was execellent for light breakfast s, reheating leftovers and keeping our drinks cold. There are WiFi service, the reception is usually very good if you leave the balcony doors open a slight crack, this instruction was printed in the check in brochure. The newly renovated pool was a hit with our kids ranging from 13 yo to 7 yo. The beach is exceptional , it is right next to the pool and we just love watching the sunset on the beach. The Castaway resturant was very good, the price is very reasonable compare to other eateries around Lahaina. There is a small exercise room onsite, it is functioning and meet the needs but why exercise in a room when you have the whole beach available to you. The laundry room has plenty of washers and dryers and it is never busy.
There is an activity desk in the lobby of the resort, I got a quote for tickets tfor a snorkel tour to Molokini and Turtle Town plus surfing lesson for my daughter from them it is much higher than buying the tickets from Activity Warehouse or Boss Frog. Get one of the tourist magazine, lookup the phone and call for your tickets. Stephen at Boss Frog actually gave me his cell # and told me to call him if we need anything or directions. He will even deliver gas to us if we ran out of gas anywhere in Maui. Activity Warehouse offered me $150.00 off our snorkel tour if we take a timeshare presentation, we just said no - no hard sell at all. Both of these vendors are very reliable.
This is a older resort, but the grounds are well kept and it retains the charm of what Hawaii used to be. If you are looking for a 5 Stars hotel, you should stay in Grand Wailea. If you just want a reasonable rate hotel with clean room with a beautiful beach, this is the resort for you.
After my return, the resort's management actually send me an email to ensure we are OK. I mentioned about the printer issue with the paid computer system in the lobby, it was eventually resolved by the hotel IT contractor. But the hotel management send me an email apologizing profusely for my inconvenience. This proofs to me the hotel mamangement actually cares about their guest and their experience.
