We booked an "Ocean View" in this supposed "3-Star Resort" on Hotwire.com which we didn't get. We booked blindly not knowing what hotel we would get until we paid our money (that's the way they do it). When we arrived we were hit with a surprise $12 a night "facility" fee over and above the $142 a night we were already paying for this 2-star room. Worse yet we found a $99 a night room at a true 3-star hotel in beautiful Wailua while we were there.
When we checked in we got a small room out in the back 40 with a view of a parking lot and a tool shed. Instead of the lapping waves of the surf we had a major highway sharing noise with us all night long.
We had a very hard bed that you could feel every spring in and sheets that felt like sand paper - definitely not 3-star quality. It had a coffee maker listed in the amenities and you get coffee with it for the first day only. You are then told rudely that it is for the first day only and you have to buy it after that (unless you raise a stink).
The staff was adequate at best. They would answer questions if asked but offered no additional assistance or suggestions.
The grounds were well kept but the beach showers didn't work.
Parking was always difficult to find.
At 30% less this place might have been worth the money spent. But not at what we paid. Find someplace else.

Aloha

Thank you for your candid review. I was shocked to hear about some of your experiences, so I actually did a test of your experience with Hotwire.com. What I discovered on the Hotwire site was a paragraph that said: Note: This hotel typically charges all guests a resort fee regardless of how the room is booked. The hotel collects this fee of about $10 per room night directly from you, so it won't show on your Hotwire total.

Sorry about any highway noise, but there is only one highway leading to all of the hotels along the beach in West Maui. Oceanview units are not oceanfront units which would probably give you the sound of the lapping waves.

Maui Kaanapali Villas is a condominium hotel with full kitchens except for the hotel rooms. Our guest's average length of stay is about 7 nights. We do put a "starter" supply of coffee in your room for the morning after your arrival, but most guests are off to Costco or the grocery store to stock up for the week. This is one reason to chose a condominium over a hotel, especailly if you have a family to feed.

If any of my Staff was rude, I apologize. Not our style and certainly not our norm. The gift of "Aloha" is the most precious service we can offer you.

Sorry you missed the Hotwire Note.

“Beautiful Place”

ResortQuest Maui Kaanapali Villas

Aug 1, 2008

We stayed at the Villa in the middle of July. It was absoluely amazing! The location leaves nothing to wish for. The beach right out front is fantastic. For great snorkeling, walk about 100 feet down to the Wstin Beach. Staff was very friendly. The restaurant at the hotel has great food, great service and great views! Our unit (225) was very clean and comfortable. I gave it 4 starts because the hotel was renovating one of their pools when we were there and they had not told us in advance. But it didn't bother us in the least bit. We will visit again, for sure.

“Fantastic Value and Great Vacation”

ResortQuest Maui Kaanapali Villas

Jul 30, 2008

Our family stayed at the Kaanapali Villas for our family re-union in July. There are four families with a total of 9 adults and 5 kids.

We choose Kaanapali Villas due to a great rate we found on Tripadvisor plus the fridge and kitchen in the rooms. We booked a total of 4 garden view studios. Two days before our vacation, I faxed a room request to the property asking for rooms that are newly renovated and closed to each other. All if our requests were met and the management upgraded all of us to Ocean View.

Checkin was great, Ms Gwen at the front desk was friendly and informative. The studios were very clean and well kept, the furnitures are good for a beach resort. The maid service was execellent and she left us extra towels for the pool/beach each day. The kitchen was execellent for light breakfast s, reheating leftovers and keeping our drinks cold. There are WiFi service, the reception is usually very good if you leave the balcony doors open a slight crack, this instruction was printed in the check in brochure. The newly renovated pool was a hit with our kids ranging from 13 yo to 7 yo. The beach is exceptional , it is right next to the pool and we just love watching the sunset on the beach. The Castaway resturant was very good, the price is very reasonable compare to other eateries around Lahaina. There is a small exercise room onsite, it is functioning and meet the needs but why exercise in a room when you have the whole beach available to you. The laundry room has plenty of washers and dryers and it is never busy.

There is an activity desk in the lobby of the resort, I got a quote for tickets tfor a snorkel tour to Molokini and Turtle Town plus surfing lesson for my daughter from them it is much higher than buying the tickets from Activity Warehouse or Boss Frog. Get one of the tourist magazine, lookup the phone and call for your tickets. Stephen at Boss Frog actually gave me his cell # and told me to call him if we need anything or directions. He will even deliver gas to us if we ran out of gas anywhere in Maui. Activity Warehouse offered me $150.00 off our snorkel tour if we take a timeshare presentation, we just said no - no hard sell at all. Both of these vendors are very reliable.

This is a older resort, but the grounds are well kept and it retains the charm of what Hawaii used to be. If you are looking for a 5 Stars hotel, you should stay in Grand Wailea. If you just want a reasonable rate hotel with clean room with a beautiful beach, this is the resort for you.

After my return, the resort's management actually send me an email to ensure we are OK. I mentioned about the printer issue with the paid computer system in the lobby, it was eventually resolved by the hotel IT contractor. But the hotel management send me an email apologizing profusely for my inconvenience. This proofs to me the hotel mamangement actually cares about their guest and their experience.

The hotel was expensive for the service it provided. No internet in the room, extra charge per day for work out room whether you use it or not (10$ and it is not included in your price).
The room was nice and spacious, it has fridge, microwave, dvd player, nice access to the beach.

I would stay here again if I didn't find anything cheaper. Not worth the money overall. But then it may be hard to find something reasonable at Maui.

Ask for room 232 when booking!!! looks brand new and unused, very quiet, spacious, full kitchen, big bathroom, we couldn't ask for more!! Perfect for relaxing.
No ocean view, but you can solve this with a very short walk to the beach front.
The Resort amenities are great, very nice pool and beach area, the breakfast was good but a little pricey (and not included on room rate - we suggest you to do your own breakfast in the room, there is a 24h supermarket nearby, and the room has all the tools you'll need).
5 minutes drive from Lahaina downtowm, full of restaurants and nice shops.
Maui is beautiful, stay there for a week or more to have enough time to see the whole island.
Just pay attention to where you park your car inside the resort, one side of the road is a non-parking zone, and the signs are very small on short posts, almost got a ticket.
