My family (two adults and two young kids ages 4 and 2) and my extended family (4 adults) stayed at the ResortQuest Maui Kaanapali Villas 8/6 through 8/11. I had found this location through trip advisor. Thanks to all of those who helped me with enough information to select this location.
Our initial request was for two studio condo's with a garden view. We also had asked for our condo's to be next to one another. I had read a few frightening stories about the rooms and braced myself upon check in.
To my surprise we ended getting two rooms in the main bldg (aloha tower) #601 and #602 . We asked the gentlemen at the front desk if we could see the rooms first, before checking in and they were okay with it. The two units appeared to be remodeled. In fact, they were one bedrooms. These rooms could definitely accomodate a party of 6-8 comfortably. Both units were very clean. Someone came to clean the room everyday in the afternoon.
There is a nice size pool next to the restaurant Castaway, which has a kid pool (1 1/2 feet of water). Connected to the kid pool is a larger pool, which gets to about 7 feet of water. There is also an adult pool on the other side of the Aloha Tower which is nice, quiet, and private. The beach is very close and very scenic. It's also a short walk from the Westin.
We took advantage of the full kitchen, by purchasing groceries from the Safeway. Out of the 5 nights on our stay, we ate breakfast and lunch in our room 4 days. Some items were a bit more expensive than being on the mainland, but we were prepared for this. Safeway is also affiliated with Von's, therefore you can use your Vons card or telephone number to get items at the member rate.
We took the free Kaanapali shuttle to Whaler's Village for some shopping and souvenirs. My younger brother took some surfing lessons, and went parasailing. Both experiences were pretty exciting for him. I can't remember the name of the guys or company which provided the surf lessons, but i can find out for those who are interested.
Thanks to a work colleauge I found this small private beach, called Baby Beach. A lot of local folks are familiar with this place. The cool thing about this beach is that the water isn't too rough and kids (with adult supervision) can feel comfortable entering the water. FYI this beach isn't just for kids. There were a few families and couples enjoying there time as well. Ask Gwen at the front desk for directions.
I would definitely stay at this place again!
A couple of things to note. The policy on pool towels may be a bit confusing at first. Just bring them back to front desk at the end of each day, and request new ones.
Sometimes service can be a little bit slow, when requesting anything from the front desk. But it's okay, we were never in a rush.
Front Street has a lot of shops, and restaurants to visit as well.
I was able to order cocktails from Castaway and take them to the pool..just ask for them to be made in a plastic cup.
Aloha..
