I had a short stay at the Inn, but came away with a very positive impression of the place.
The Inn is a beautiful Victorian town house, typical of so many that you see in San Francisco. Inside there are many delightful period details, including some great old photos, and a fabulous drawing room / reception area where a buffet breakfast is served.
The Inn also boasts an amazing roof terrace, with spectacular views of the neighbourhood around Van Ness, and of the downtown skyscrapers.
And while Van Ness is a very busy road, the Inn is sufficiently set back for any traffic noise to be barely heard.
Also on the plus side is the very friendly welcome you'll receive, from either Marty, Fred or Marshmallow (the Corgi). They make for very engaging hosts... although be warned, Marty is a bit of a comedian, and likes nothing better than to wrongfoot you with a playful one liner! Still, be sure to trouble him for info about getting around the city; he was most helpful indicating which buses to catch, once we'd told him where we wanted to get to.
Rather more on the negative side, our room was a bit of a disappointment. I think we got the tiniest one in the joint, and for a double, it was pretty cramped. Also, it's on ground level, and the en suite bathroom (with half a clear window) looked directly out on to the garden.
Overall though, the room was fine... Nothing at all intolerable about it. And in every other respect we were happy with our stay at the Inn. A good place to stay in a fantastic city.
