I agonized over which hotel to choose for our 10 year anniversary. I finally decided on the Orchard Garden and I don't regret my decision at all. The hotel gets a thumbs up for:

* Very clean, well appointed room.
* Extremely helpful staff
* Great location (close to Union square, Chinatown and North Beach).
* It really is a very green hotel. Not just made up stuff to market themselves as green.

My only very minor complaints are:

* The wireless internet connection was terrible in my room. I had to resort to a wired connection, which worked fine.
* While the room was incredibly quiet, I felt like the other room doors banged a little loud at night. It would be great if they could install some kind of quiet close device. Please don't let this put you off. I'm a bit picky about noise issues and the room was very quiet.
* The rooms are a touch narrow. This didn't bother me at all, but it might bother some people.


The continental breakfast was good, but I wouldn't recommend getting it as part of your room rate. I got a little tired of the continental breakfast after 3 or 4 days, but I didn't want to pay full price for the cooked breakfast when I already had the free continental breakfast. You can always pay for the continental breakfast if you want it and you're not really getting any discount by including it in your room rate.

Spacious and Quiet! I was in SF for business and was relieved to have such a pleasant place to rest my head. I had a room facing Bush st. and never heard any noise for the 6 nites I was there. The mattress is amazingly comfortable. The fact that this is a eco-friendly hotel makes high marks too. The location is great for exploring Chinatown. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. The only suggestion I would have for them is to offer more TV channels.

Good value in San Francisco.We enjoyed our four
night stay at the Orchard Garden, it's one of the first
"green" hotels in the United States. The room was
spacious, clean and quiet, even though our room was
on the second floor facing the street. The staff was very
friendly and helpful. The hotel is located near the
Chinatown Gate and within a few blocks from Union
Square and the Cable Car line which provides transportation
to nearly all tourist venues.If possible, leave your car at
home, otherwise plan on spending $50 or more on parking
per day.

I stayed at the Orchard Garden Hotel, San Francisco from 12 - 15th July 2008. We found the hotel to be excellent. The service was great, the hotel was very clean, very quiet and had free internet access in their business centre. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the staff were all very polite.

The hotel, built in 2006, is the first hotel in America to use the room key to turn on the electricity in the room therefore saving electricity when you leave the room because you take the room key with you! We found this a bit funny because we've been using this technology in Australia for at least 25 years.

It is just at the bottom of China Town and very close to the trolley cars, but it is also only a few blocks from the centre of town where you could catch all different types of public transport. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant beacause there were so many other places to eat, so can't comment on their food.
