“Great Location”

Park Plaza Boston Hotel and Towers

5 of 5 stars
New Jersey
Sep 3, 2008

After reading some of the reviews of this historic hotel, I was a bit nervous, but my stay at the Park Plaza was great. The location is the best part...it is in the middle of everything! We walked everywhere we wanted to go. The room was a bit small but I expected that in a city hotel. The king size bed was very comfortable. The room was clean and the staff was professional and very accommodating. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family.

“definitely an old hotel”

Park Plaza Boston Hotel and Towers

California

Rooms were clean and well-decorated and the bed was comfortable. That's where my positive experience ends, though. To begin, in three days, I never once experienced a truly warm shower: after ten minutes of running the water, it began to approach lukewarm at best; the staff's explanation was a sheep-faced, "uh, sorry, our boilers are old". To make matters worse, there must be no insulation in the walls; I'm not a particularly light sleeper, yet I heard (and couldn't sleep through) every bathroom activity of neighboring (above and adjoining) rooms; it sounded as if the water other guests were running was running in my room. And I've never encountered a toilet with such a loud flush before! Finally and inexplicably, the TV was about twenty feet away from the bed and at a right angle to it so that there was no way to comfortably watch TV in bed, as I like to do when I'm traveling on business. All in all, it certainly seemed to me that this is a hotel coasting on its historic status and location; I recommend avoiding it, particularly when taking into account the price (not cheap).

“Poor Service .........Never again”

Park Plaza Boston Hotel and Towers

3 of 5 stars
London
Sep 3, 2008

The Hotel Staff were rather blunt and abrupt. We had to look for someone to assist us in getting our gear to our room.

The bathrooms really weren't great and the room was so very small. Tha gas / air con unit in the room was really noisey and I should have asked for a move but we could not be asked. There were spurts of noise which was quite frightening throughout the night (no I am not precious).

The beds were nice and there was a bit of a view but other than that and the location, I would not return to this hotel again. The staff really put me off.

Oh and at afternoon tea we had to wait some considerable time for service.

On, exit they gave us this huge telephone bill and when I questioned it, they simply said it was the supplier's rates and not theirs, I don't believe it. I had used the phone for 3 minutes ...

I foolishly forgot to take my change from the traveller's cheque I had paid and no mention was made by the assistant either as we gathered our bags. I refused to tip the doorman as he had simply opened the doors for us and the service had been so bad, he shouted at us in the street to top things off. We had tipped graciously throughout our trip but I refuse to tip when the service has been poor.

I agree with all of the negative feedback on this hotel and a local even referred to it as "not very good".

“Great location, so-so property”

Park Plaza Boston Hotel and Towers

3 of 5 stars
New York, NY
Sep 3, 2008

We were booked into the Park Plaza as part of a package. It's a mastadon of a city hotel -- a pile of fairly small and outdated rooms on top of a pile of restaurants and retail occupying a full city block Imagine a mid-point between the two New York paragons of this style: the luxury Waldorf-Astoria and the package-tourist-and-overnighting-stewardess Hotel Pennsylvania. As such, it does a decent job, but you wouldn't want to spend much time in the rooms or the very busy lobby.

We didn't dine at the hotel or use any of its services besides parking, but we did use the gym and want to note that it has the best hotel gym we've seen in years -- the full equivalent in range of equipment to a typical private gym, in a spacious purpose-built space, the kind of thing one tends to expect only in top-tier resort hotel or in a hotel which hosts a regular private gym and has it double-duty for guest accommodation.

“Got a great deal for a great hotel”

Park Plaza Boston Hotel and Towers

Sep 1, 2008

When I found an online price for the well-known Boston Park Plaza Hotel for $149/night, I thought there must be a mistake. Or they were doing construction next door. But I never found any problems and got a wonderful rate for a fine hotel at a great location near the Boston Garden near the Arlington St. subway stop. In fact, we were upgraded for free to the Towers floor and got a huge room, access to a lounge with free breakfast and evening appetizers and to wireless internet. This was a great place to stay for a mixed business/pleasure trip to Boston. I'd have been happy even if I had to pay more for the room.
