“Nice Hotel but LOUD JUNIOR SUITE ROOM”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego/Del Mar

4 of 5 stars
Santa Barbara, CA
Aug 19, 2008

Just returned from a weekend in San Diego with 2 kdis (1 and 3) and LOVED the hotel. Great pool, especially the 1 foot deep kiddy pool, LOVED the bed, ultra soft and cozy and the staff was really polite and seemed to make accomodating us a priority. Be sure and ask for a welcoming back-pack for the little ones, it includes all sorts of fun toys and a frisbee if you can believe that! (Who gives a kid a frisbee in a HOTEL ROOM!?) They loved it though.
The one major downsdie to this hotel, and we had a junior suite, was the noise from one room to the other. Luckily our neighbors were also watchign the Olympics, and we all seemed to go to sleep at the same time... but alas he was up at 4 AM and we heard EVERYTHING... his phone call, his TV... it was a nightmare. We complained and asked them to please keep the room empty for our second night, but of course, they didn't. Why they would put a junior suite across from the elevator and with thin walls seems ... well... you pay a little more to get more, but it didn't feel that way.
All in all though, the bed was PURE HEAVEN, and pool is great, just be sure and ask for a QUIET ROOM and you will be very pleased.
A solid 3 star hotel for sure.

“Loved it”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego/Del Mar

5 of 5 stars
New York
Aug 11, 2008

The hotel is great in all aspects. It's close by to everything San Diego has to offer (downtown - 29 minutes, Coronado - 25 minutes, SeaWorld - 15 minutes, La Jolla - 15 minutes, Torrey Pines - 10 minutes, Legoland - 15 minutes). The hotel is located close to the Interstate 5, but it's just far enough from the highway that you are not even aware that it is nearby. The pool is good even though we did not spend too much time there (only once when we arrived) - there are just too many good things around San Diego to be in a pool. The room was spacious, clean, and well decorated. We had to use a room that had only one king-size bed (we were travelling with two children (4 and 8)) as the room with two double beds was not available. However, the room had a pull-out couch which suited our kids just fine. One final note - the parking is complimentary and was always available (the parking lot was quite big).
To sum it up: I definitely recommend a stay here if you are heading to San Diego area.

“Just off the mark in customer service”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego/Del Mar

San Diego

My husband used Hilton points to book our two night trip - if the stay was not "free" I would have a far harsher review.
The highlight of this hotel was the concierge. He gave my children special backpacks with all sorts of goodies in them, and also got us all our cookies (which the front desk staff neglected to provide for us.)
Reservation was for four people - we only had 3 bath towels. I had to ask the front desk to send another towel to us. On the second day, housekeeping again only left us 3 towels, so I had to ask again.
We ordered food from the kitchen to eat poolside. When it arrived (salads), there were no forks. I had to go back to the restaurant to retrieve our forks - after paying an 18% gratuity.
At breakfast, my son's bagel was burned, and I waited over 20 minutes for a short stack of pancakes. Coffee was served without a carafe of cream, and when I asked for some cream, the busboy gave me the cream from a table he was clearing. Getting my coffee refilled was almost impossible - I was passed by no less than two times. When I received the bill, I was overcharged and billed for items I did not order.
No microwave, no refrigerator.
Pool was wonderful, and the location of the hotel is awesome.
Service throughout the entire hotel staff (except for the concierge) was lackluster, unpolished, and unenthusiastic. I was disappointed.

Very clean room. AC worked great. Friendly staff, and good cookies. Breakfast was too expensive, but smelled great. Close to most attractions (with in 15-20 minutes) Would stay again anytime.

“Perfect Hotel!”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego/Del Mar

Clean - slightly upscale hotel. Staff was curtious, free warm welcome chocolate chip cookies,.

Room was basic - 2 queens, desk, dressor, 27" TV, w payperview movies and wireless game controller. Beds were extremely soft and comfy.

Located only 2-3 miles north of 5/805 split and at most 12-13 miles north of Downtown.

I would recommend this especially on weekends as it is a business hotel and fairly quiet and easy to get rooms.
