Having read the previous TripAdvisor comments I was really looking forward to going with my family for a relaxing week in San Diego. I was willing to pay significantly ($100) more for this hotel than other local hotels because of the full breakfast, pool, and positive reviews.
Unfortunately, the first room we were assigned smelled very strongly of mildew. Yes, it had a nice view, but when you went on the balcony you could smell the cigarette smoke from the adjacent balconies (even though it is a non-smoking hotel). The in-room air conditioning units are loud and rattly, but the room was too stuffy without it. If you open the windows you will be awoken by traffic noise and smoke wafting into your room.
The bathroom has a weak fluorescent bulb that buzzes. It's like being in a cheap roadside motel.
The pool looked nice, but my child noted the mildew growing on the sauna wall, and my other child came down with an ear infection later that week. They said it didn't seem to have any chlorine.
Breakfast is good, and that's a plus, but definitely not worth the extra money. We spent a lot of time driving around trying to find another place to stay. You are paying a Marriott price for a Motel 6 type of accommodation.
