“Best Location Best Hotel”

The Dana on Mission Bay

Aug 17, 2008

You can't go wrong with this hotel it's walking distance from Sea World and a very short drive to Misson Beach, which is the best beach in the area. We stayed in the older side for 5 days with a family of 4, that's parent and 2 teenagers. the 15 & 16 yr old boys loved this hotel. We asked for marina veiw first floor and we got room 608, perfect parking right outside our door with a beautifulmarina veiw. Within 100 feet there's a conveniance store. The Concierges are great. Use them for everything. Thanks Jesse. Also they turned me on to San Diego Concierge at [--] a FREE source of great info & cheap hotel deals. Call them now if yore planning a trip to San Diego. We went across the street to a fishing trip at $40 each person plus license for older than 15 at $13 @ and pole rental a $12 each.
Note to self make sure that they are going to the sea kelp beds along La Jollla beach and not out to sea for big fish like tuna. The boys & we thought that the zoo was a bust. Omaha in NE was better. The animals werent out to see. If you go get on the doulbel level bus to see everthing and then you'll see how small this zoo is and you won't waslw alot of time. Travelocity was great! we decide to leave the Dana an fo tp Hollywood the they refunded our rooms. FYI get a room in advance in Hollywood, all rooms were sold out& we had to stay in 30 minutes away. Kids liked the looks of Hollywood but want to go back to San Diego ASAP, so we call SAn Diego concierge for a great cheap room.

The Dana on Mission Bay

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at The Dana and had a wonderful experience. We appreciated the free shuttle to and from the airport, cruise terminal, and Sea World. There is also a bus line directly in front of the hotel so it was easy and inexpensive to go downtown. The concierge was very friendly and helped us arrange an Old Town Trolley tour that picked us up at the hotel. The hotel has 2 very nice pools and spas. The two restaurants and room service were excellent. We'd definitely go here again.

“The Dana on Mission Bay was a lovely experience”

The Dana on Mission Bay

We have just returned from 2 and a half weeks in California. We stayed for our first 5 nights in the Dana and were very impressed with everything there.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food at both restaurants was lovely. We enjoyed both pools and found the whole experience a very nice introduction to America as this was our first visit.

Breakfast at the Firefly was magnificent and snacks around the pool were very welcome too.

Our room was spotless and very comfortable, overlooking the bay on the ground floor with a patio. It was handy having a fridge and a microwave in the room too.

As far as location is concerned. It was great to be able to walk to Seaworld but we did obviously hire a car and were able to see the rest of San Diego whilst we were there.

All in all a great experience and we would be very happy to return.

“Good location, well equipped rooms, friendly staff”

The Dana on Mission Bay

4 of 5 stars
Edinburgh, Scotland

We stayed in one of the older buildings in the hotel in a ground floor room with patio near the tropical pool. The upper floors had no balcony to sit out, so if in that part of the hotel I would recommend requesting a ground floor room.

The rooms were spacious with a plasma tv, fridge and microwave. On arrival the receptionist on noting we were a family of 4 (with teenagers) in one room she looked for a larger room than we had been allocated which was appreciated. So perhaps some rooms would not be as spacious as ours.

We booked a couple of trips via the concierge desk and found all staff we dealt with to be pleasant, friendly and helpful. We ate in the Blue Pearl restaurant - good menu and again friendly staff

Overall we had a fantastic holiday and were very happy with our choice of hotel.

“Enjoyed The Dana”

The Dana on Mission Bay

We just returned from the Dana, August 1st weekend. Our family of four decided to take a weekend trip to San Diego at the last minute, and used Trip Advisor to help us find a suitable hotel. While the Dana seemed expensive with a Marina view room (2 Queen beds) in the older section of the hotel going for $251 a night, we liked the idea of being able to walk to Sea World from the hotel, and being able to watch the fireworks from the Firefly Cafe and pool/jacuzzi in front of it. The room was pleasant - upgraded in 2007 - had a small refrigerator, microwave, two sinks separated from the toilet & tub/
shower, with plenty of room to unpack and put clothes in drawers and closets. There is not enough room, however, to pass each other on the way to the bathroom. The hotel offers a shuttle at three different morning times to Sea World, and three late afternoon/evening times back from Sea World. The walk to Sea World only takes 20 minutes (which suites my family who prefers the exercise and freedom from a hotel shuttle schedule). There are two restaurants on site - the Firefly Cafe (reasonable for lunch, a little expensive for dinner - great food and beautiful views of the Marina and infinity pool), and the Blue Pearl (a family-style restaurant - very reasonable prices, no view). Great walkway along the Marina, which we enjoyed day and night. Can rent bikes, boats, etc. at reasonable prices. We will definitely return to this hotel in the future, but will plan ahead for better room pricing.
